Today's Walk

Me & my son went for a walk round the local nature reserve today, so here are a few shots from the walk. The weather was that great mix of deep inky black clouds and bright sunshine, my favourite light.

Re: Today's Walk

The swans are fine but they pale into insignificance for me, that 4th shot is absolutely MAGNIFICENT! I know it doesn't have a point of focus but it doesn't need one, the lighting and colours are just gorgeous. Absolutely love it!

Cheers,
Rob

Re: Today's Walk

Got to agree with Rob there - #4 knocks your socks off.

I can't deny that if it were mine I'd be looking for something to drop in to give a point of focus too, though.

Re: Today's Walk

Nice shots in nice lighting.I too think No4 is good, very good. But those two taller weeds on the right [don't know the name] are,for me,annoying and I would clone the bu**ers out.I half expect a band of marauding Vikings or something to come over the crest intent on pillage on a grand scale.
Nice to view these though,
cheers,
John.

Re: Today's Walk

Thanks for the comments. The 4th shot is my favourite as well, I love the light you get with sunshine & storm clouds. There really isn't anything at this reserve to use as a focal point, it is all reeds and water with a few trees and an island in the lake, the only things that stand out are the hides, not very picturesque So I just thought I'd go with a simple horizon on a third composition. I did even consider removing the small tree to make it even simpler, but left it in the end. nothing done to the shot, just a slight crop off the bottom of the reeds, colour is as RAW file.

Edit - The taller bits that look like reeds are the two distant silver birch trees that I did consider removing and may do an edit.

Re: Today's Walk

Whippy: No #4 for me too! Boll***s to all this rubbish about focal points and point of interest, this is a great image using simple composition (that's the best ) and nothing more. Great impact and mood.

Trash the rest and keep No #4! Oops, that must be the beer talkin'
