A Touch of Frost

OK, here are a couple of the macroes I took yesterday at Cosmeston Lakes Country Park - not to everyone's taste I'm sure, but maybe of some interest

Catkins
Took this a a couple of reasons: the line of freost along the top (OK, not so obvious at this size) and the BG of a light frosty ground

Problem with trying to get water drops is that BGs become almost as important as FGs - and you need to max the DOF to capture the "distant" detail in the droplet without then putting a distracting BG in focus!

Not sure whether I should have cropped this in closer (I tend not to crop my pics - comp them as they're then shown) as the top left is less than ideal (and the red bark on RHS goes into shadow - too much shadow!)
Drop 1

Did crop in closer on this to increase the abstract feel of it
Drop 2

The whole of the twig was wet and I rather liked that and the line of light on the surface of the droplet (sun was coming up behind)
Drop 3

The starburst is natural, honest! Say that, as I was accused of dropping one in - but then, arguably, if it looks like I've done that then that's how the image should be treated (sadly, as I'm not too keen on filters but rather like this shot!)

Again a wet overall twig, so you get a secondary reflection from the surface of the droplet
Drop 4

As always, welcome good, bad or indifferent comments!

Re: A Touch of Frost

I like them all, the only water I ever caught on camera was a wiffer trail. Great to see and hear how it's done, thanks Mark
