Re: Trigger finger practice
The last two are much nicer in terms of controlling the noise, really like the splash of seed bits on the last one. Have you got a flash? Using it working off metering around 2 stops under your camera's exposure is quite good in daylight.

Re: Trigger finger practice
Quick little buggers aren't they? The last is far better in terms of noise, well captured,
did you run it through noiseware of something? |

Re: Trigger finger practice
Thanks for the comments - Yes I do use fill in flash - set on high speed here and one stop under. Noise Ninja used as high iso settings as light not that good and would be restricted to about F5.6 at iso200 and 1/200th otherwise and although some were 1/800 here I was going up to 1/1000 and this on small birds still does not freeze wing movement.

Re: Trigger finger practice
Something else you could try would be setting flash on manual at quite a small fraction of full power. You can achieve effective shutter speeds this way on the order of 1/25000 sec if conditions allow!

Re: Trigger finger practice
I wish! The gun I had for the film eos cameras did this but does not work with the digital series. The high setting on the Canon 420 seems to work well - interested to see the 1/25000 you have - or do your fingers travel faster than your brain as mine does and adds the extra zero?

Re: Trigger finger practice
If you manually set a flash to fire synced to your camera at 1/250 sec then half the power, it's not actually changing the shutter speed but is illuminating the scene for half as long, so the rest of the time the camera shutter is open is irrelevant as the flash lit scene is what most of the exposure consists of.
So say you fire at full blast at 1/250 half power effectively lights scene for 1/500 sec 1/4 for 1/1000 1/8 for 1/2000 1/16 for 1/4000 1/32 for 1/8000 1/64 for 1/16000 and 1/128 for 1/32000 Of course then you run into problems with the light being so slight you need more flashes ![]()

Re: Trigger finger practice
Getting too mathematical for me! The "high" setting on the unit is for speeds higher than the normal flash syncro range and you are warned that power may be reduced. I then have the flash exposure set to be at 1 or 1.5 stops under exposed which further reduces the amount on the subject. The only thing I have to do - and sometimes forget is to remember to reset the flash exposure when I take the camera off the tripod for a grandchild visit and wonder why things look underexposed!
