Re: Tulip
Really liking this one, Sawdust.
Do you have any that are not so tightly cropped? I like this crop, but wonder what the effect would be if there were more stem/leaf visible. |

Re: Tulip
Your lighting on this is very nice! But, is it sharp? Or is there just too little DoF? The water drops are a bit of a cliche but I like the composition and the use of the border line.

Re: Tulip
Wow sawdust that's great
Just one suggestion ... if only the BG had been completely black, or at least one colour all over. I like the crop + the compo Oh, one more suggestion ... colours could use a bit more saturation. Very well done mate, + a fab start to your home studio work |

Re: Tulip
Smashing effort Sawdust.
I personally don't mind the water droplets. Charlotte does have a point about the background though. I'm viewing the image on a laptop and at the angle I had the screen the background did look black and it does look good. Does this mean on Valentine's Day your wife has to wait for you to take your photos of the flowers before she receives them? I guess the next shot will be of a red rose??

Re: Tulip
I disagree about the background. For me, the subtle tones there add a sense of mystery and make the image more complete without detracting from the flower. A black background would just give a nothingness rather than add to the image. It is important to see an image in it's entirerity, to appreciate the 'Gastalt' or completeness of an image. Retaining the background as is does that for me, it completes things.

Re: Tulip
I think the frame you've added to this really sets it off as well! My only comment is that the leaf appears to be coming out of nowhere and it would be good to see the join of leaf and stem - but I guess that is going to be difficult to keep it as such a close up them - how about without the leaf?

Re: Tulip
Cool image. But the leaf bothers me. While I like the angles of the stem and leaf and the curve of the leaf, the cut of tip irritates me. I somehow can picture the leaf and its relationship to the stem, but not the tip.
However....if you included the tip of the leaf, it would put the flower way to the left, and the stronger diagonal of the leaf would then compete with the flower for attention, in spite of the color, and change the feeling. Am I blathering? skip |

Re: Tulip
yep i like the background it keeps something of interest other than the flower in the image. Agree about the leaf its kinda disjointed at the moment. i would either lose the leaf or show the whole leaf ., great shot which ever way u look at it! well done
