Two in colour from Skye

Usual scanned slides.Near Broadford looking to Raasay in the background [I think!!].

and a view of Dunvegan

For anyone who has not visited Skye it really is a great place for photography.Having your own transport would be a big bonus but it is possible to get around using local buses, the post-bus service and your thumb! .

Re: Two in colour from Skye

I like the sky in the first picture, it has great detail and is very powerful. The FG is a bit too dark and featureless and the water doesn't look realistic for some reason as the colour is too strong and the lighting doesn't match. It has a darker area to the left of the water and then a light reflective area to the right but with the sky we see the light is far over to the left so I am not sure where the light reflection is coming from. It might just be that you have boosted the saturation a bit strongly, I am not sure.

Compositionally, the 2nd one is a lot stronger. The two diagonal lead in lines of water coming from the left and right corners coupled with the strong arrow form of the rocks with the rbight lichen on them all points your eye into the picture. The oranges are very strong which suggests maybe a touch of strong saturation again there though I know these are slide scans so colour tends to be stronger in those.

Second is definitely my fave of these two

Cheers,
Rob

I know zero about slide scanning. However both of these appear to me to be a bit oversaturated. I think that if you brought the sat down a tad and maybe lightened the first one a bit, you would have some very good images.

Yes,when I look at it afresh, my attempted localised adjustments have not worked at all well.I will have another crack at the first one as I feel that rectifying the badly done ajustments, cropping the base and maybe also a bit off either side, may be worth the effort.Maybe!.
I am hoping to purchase 'Photoshop CS2 for photographers' by Martin Evening from ebay to try and improve my lightroom skills.Anyone use this book or recommend an alternative?.

Hi skip, agreed re oversaturated a bit on the 2nd shot and am not happy with the hill above the village.Must try harder. On 1st one,it has quite a few problems but i dont feel it is oversatutated.I feel it lacks any 'sparkle'.Cropping the base will I hope begin to help.I may look upon this slide as a challenge and keep plugging away till either I master it or it masters me!!
