Re: Umhlanga outing

Love the first one Wow, you really managed to get those 2 people to stand out so well, even though they're so tiny in the frame! That was clever + emphasises perspective beautifully Great sky! Colours, compo, detail, exposure ... everything here works for me - a very moody shot, well done

Not quite so keen on the 2nd one. I think the DoF is a bit short - the FG is very sharp but sharpness of detail falls off through the image. The water's a bit too milky for my taste, it almost looks like mist. Composition doesn't do much for me either, the horizon's too near the top, the buildings are leaning too much, and there isn't really any point of focus, somewhere for the eyes to rest.

Edit: PS I've been there (to Umhlanga Rocks)

Re: Umhlanga outing

thanks Charlotte, great post

number 2 , thats why feed back is invaluable. I got so focused on fg and the texture in the rocks I overlooked other parts of the shot

Not sure when you were in Umhlanga but I'm sure you'd get a shock at it now.changed a lot with more and taller buildings everywhere

thanks again cheers Andrew

Really like the sense of movement here. Interesting perspective on the lighthouse - the top walkway looks slanted.......

Re: Umhlanga outing

First one is fabulous - exposure spot-on, loads to look at and great perspective. I echo Charlotte's comments for the second - the milky water is almost unnatural, and the interest diminishes back in the frame. In some ways, the second one is a victim of success of the first - as considered in isolation, it's still a very good shot

Re: Umhlanga outing

I stayed in the hotel there a few years ago, None of my pictures are as good as yours. As with most of the other replies I prefer No. 1, very nice. I would like 2 better if the hotels were not there. demolition charges or clone tool
