Re: V&A Trip
I agree with Ali, first and last. But the last one feels like it's missing something. Maybe the light is too soft?

Re: V&A Trip
SOFT!? Look along the main vein going to the right, that is that sharpest. Maybe it doesn't show well but it is tack sharp up close. Yes 1st and last are my favs too. Might enhance saturation on the first a little.

Re: V&A Trip
Agree with Lone Buggin on the last one, where he says the LIGHT is soft, not the focus, Jack
Consequently, it looks a bit flat to me, i.e. lack of colour. Yes, the detail is sharp, but that doesn't hold my interest as much as it would if the leaf had a bit of colour ![]() 1st one looks a little odd to me, in that the water looks as if it's rippling softly, but then it looks like you've sharpened it quite a bit, so the softness/sharpness seems a little incongruous to me. Just my opinion of course. I like the 2nd one best, a bright abstract

Re: V&A Trip
Ok been a bit devious, what do you think now? Just imagine a stray beam of light falling neatly on the leaf

S'ok Jack, slysdexia sometimes gets the best of me too, I forgive ya.
![]() Your deviousnes did the trick. It stands out a lot more now, especially around the edges and light/shadow lines. |

Re: V&A Trip
Funny how we all see things differently and that is what makes this art form so wonderful
I am left fairly cold by number one, lovely colours but what I call a 'wallpaper shot' because it's the kind of shot you could use as the wallpaper background on your PC desktop. that isn't to say it's badly taken, far from it, it's excellent technically, it just doesn't float my boat.... though I suppose it would as it is water but....moving swiftly on... number three is much better in the reworked version. i like the crop of the shot and the improved lighting of the 2nd version. Works nicely. but the 2nd shot definitely makes me stop and look for longer than the other two. I love strong reflection shots like this and the colours are very rich which create a sense of impact. The building and sky complement each other well and the autumnal leaves punctuate it with points of interest. Very nicely done. A good set there Jack, I hope you did actually spend time looking at the exhibits in the V & A and not just photographing the outside! I have to confess though i did exactly the same earlier this year when i visited the Natural History museum and spent all my time taking shots of the fantastic architecture and ignoring the contents! Cheers, Rob

Re: V&A Trip
Thanks Rob I agree with all your comments really. Mixed opinions on the second one, some people think it's good and some think the colour looks dodgy. You're spot on with the first one, taken as an abstract, but could not be not taken (
if you see what I mean) because it looked so great in real life.I did look at the exhibits, Lee Miller being one of them, and I went to the print rooms and saw some actual prints (not behind glass) by famous photographers, like Ansel Adams and a Man Ray rayograph (photogram)
