View from the top

Here's a pair of shots I took last year whilst on a helicopter flight over Niagara Falls

http://www.vikingphotography.co.uk/_DSC2764.jpg

http://www.vikingphotography.co.uk/_DSC2766.jpg

Both shot with a D2X and a 70-200VR lens set to 'Active' image stabilisation mode to compensate for the chopper bouncing around

Some retouching was needed in ACR & Photoshop to adjust for the distance haze and associated contrast loss, and also the colour tint caused by shooting through the 'copter's glass.

If you ever get the chance to take the flight then I'd highly recommend it

I never realised how 'built-up' the area was until I saw these shots. Quite spectacular. Thanks for posting these VP.

Cotter:

There are two sets of falls at Niagara; one on the American border, one on the Canadian border... the Canadian (Horseshoe) falls are the larger of the two

Re: View from the top

@Cotter: don't sweat it - I was ignorant of this fact until I visited the falls; I mean, I knew that they spanned the American/Canadian border, but I always assumed that it was just one waterfall, not two

@Everyone else: thanks for the appreciation shown for these shots
