Vintage rally
Went to the park today to retake some shots that I’d like to try again with the new camera. To my surprise there was a vintage car rally on, unfortunately I had very little time and think I rushed too much, consequently I don’t have too much that I’m happy with. The good news is it’s a two day event and they expect a load more vehicles tomorrow. So I would really like any help and advice prior to going again tomorrow. I know it’s very short notice but any advice would be appreciated.
Here are some of the shots I took today. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Will post some more soon. |

I hate to say this, but I can't really pick many flies out of those at all. Seriously, it's good work and the levels are excellent. I take it you've post-processed them?
All I would really offer is general advice about photographing cars. Good colour saturation makes all the difference - try under-exposing by about half a stop which helps saturation and also helps avoid any blown highlights. Short notice - but get a polarizing filter, they're great for colour saturation and cutting down reflections on cars. If you don't have one yet, you can sometimes get away with sticking one lens of polarizing sunglasses over the lens to get some idea of the effect. Keep the specs the right way up and they're already orientated (rotated) for reducing maximum glare/reflections. The improvement in your shots with the 350D is very noticeable. 8) |

I cant see a great deal wrong with them either ! The front of the blue opel, is cropped a little tight maybe ?
CT as usual has come up with the goods ! a circular polarizing filter is good, as if the front of your lens rotates its not so much of a problem Not that im much of an expert with mine, only had it a coupel of weeks and used it twice ! lol |

No probs Ken if you want to stick another couple up - they're not hosted here, and as long as you'r e not expecting full critiques which is why we ask people to post one per day in the Critique Forum if they want seriously considered feedback.
I note these were rush shots anyway. The main thing for me is that you seem to have good grasp now of what makes a good print - detail just visible in the shadows and no blown highlights. Coupled with good saturation, pics like that usually impress. You're just losing shadow detail under the front of that last pic of the lorry - I'd expect to just be able to see more of the tyre on the left side. Well... couldn't let you get away Scot free. ![]() |

Remember that you're viewing these shots on a monitor which is like viewing a back lit slide. If the shadows look blocked up on your monitor they'd look even more so on a flat print.
