Re: Visual Silence
Hmmmmm. The only thing I can make out is the horse on the LHS - which looks great BTW - otherwise I haven't a clue what else is in the image - pictorially I mean. As for the text, it seems disjointed re: font, colours, placement. In the light of the aforegoing, the title "Visual Silence" holds true for me - I'm afraid the image as a whole says nothing to me, except perhaps "confusion" ![]() Quote:

Re: Visual Silence
OK, firstly, anyone who uses this forum, or indeed any forum, amatuer photography magazine etc, as a tool to connect with the world of photography, then please dont take this as an insult or crit, as an artist this is where i am.
landscape, street photography, portraiture is regarded as a genre, well i feel amatuer photography has created it own genre over the years, with its focus mainly set on technical issues, that truly are a given when we are considering a piece. i look at hundreds of photographs on forums, and rarely do we consider the real meaning. visual language. the best way i can explain myself, is, take two women, one aesthetically perfect, the other may require more effort to see the beauty. an inner beauty maybe, it takes longer to realise, and indeed there is a process in finding it, however it is the kind of beauty that will stay with us, and serve a much valued purpose, photography is no different........visual laungage!! the photograph is a form of communication, a document, and so it goes |

![]() I agree with you that photography is about communication ("visual language"). So what's with the text? I'm still not sure what your image here is saying. What message was it your intention to communicate to us through this image? It looks like it might be a "stand" against critique. Is it meant in humour? |

Re: Visual Silence
Ok I get it now
After some more thought on this - you really got me with it y'know - I see what you're saying: We're too hung up on technical issues re: photography, and should look at it more as an art form. Right?

Re: Visual Silence
not just art, techinical is important, a badly taken image is a badly taken image after all, and as photographers it should be a given that techinical issues are solved at the camera, . in principle. the discussion after, is much more stimulating if it involves us decoding the the image, my approach as always been, as a photographger i encode, and as a viewer i decode. however please dont see this terrible piece of artwork(which took me 10 mins, while i was drunk) as a crit or an insult it was not meant that way.

Re: Visual Silence
thats my point, we all see beauty in different ways, with this in mind it would be more stimulation to see what the photographer sees, and not trying to correct a piece to make our own vision, with that said i do understand that forums are used as a learning curve for many people

Re: Visual Silence
I already reviewed this in the gallery, but I like the little story's that come with a picture, maybe for a person who is trying to learn proper tech. about taking pictures, atleast for me. People like to hear good things, but they should also be able to take in all the views if they post. I love to see pixels run and drip, blend and contain. I have learned all about proper photography the best I can from this forum and the little story's always seem to carry alot of impact on the learning cruve. I also have a lot of contorted pixels yet to post or create. ![]() |
