Thanks Matt, it might just be me, most of them seem to have to much Glint from the rocks which is why i converted the other to grey but i do like this one.

Ken it's great - it just lacks a bit of clout. Just look for a bit more more 'punch' when you're doing your post processing.

You do have to be careful about overdoing the saturation, but with contrast it's often beneficial to gradually increase it by small amounts. When it looks overcooked it's easy to go back a step or start again. |

So what did you do? Just contrast? i'm asking because if i can get the rest of my pics from that trip to look like your version i'd be very happy. |

With your waterfall pic Ken I used a one-click filter in PSP called 'Clarify' which has settings from 1-5. I applied it twice to your pic at full strength. As near as I can tell it seems to be a mix of USM and contrast adjustment. It works wonders on some shots, particularly black and white ones, as long as they're not too contrasty to begin with, but just looks naff on others, so it's no magic answer I'm afraid.

To duplicate the effect I'd say carefully apply a little sharpening and then contrast, but watch out for the shadows blocking up. As long as you can see detail in the shadows you're OK.

Just been messing about with Raw shooter and the fill light and contrast seem to do a similiar thing. I like what you did, enough to install PSP and give it a try on the others from that day. The cliff face looks much better than mine.
Thanks CT. |
