Waterfall: Colour, B/W or Toned?

Hmm, thought I'd try a variation - be interested in what others think.

If anyone wants to have a go, feel free! I'm always up for modifications/suggestions!

Personally, think toned isn't quite right and that colour edges it

Oh, and it's another shot from our visit to Hebden Bridge

I quite like the toned one closely followed by the colour version.

The colours in the original version are so good that anything else is a poor alternative.

Colour for me as well, it loses something when the colour is taken away.

Re: Waterfall: Colour, B/W or Toned?

I agree, the greyscale mono is not quite there, the toned one works better, especially the pimped version of Dave's. The colour version is good but I would try and reduce the yellow in the water as that makes it look a bit 'dirty' and lacks the fresh spring-like quality that makes falls look so inviting. This is the advantage of the toned version for me.

Cheers,
Rob

Re: Waterfall: Colour, B/W or Toned?

Many thanks for the comments, everyone! Much appreciated!

And thanks for the pimped version, Dave! So much better than mine! I really must get to grips with B/W and toning

Well, hate to say it, Rob, but most 'falls are full of orangey yellow from the peat! Personally, think that's part of the beauty of the 'falls

Re: Waterfall: Colour, B/W or Toned?

Since you can't see the water source (there is black across the top of the shot) this comes across almost abstract. The color shot, with the purple water, fits that abstract concept. Additionally, the purple in the water and gold in the "falls" are complementary colors and are even "regal " colors.
So, I think its the color version - hands down.
Well done.
