Waterfalls
Hoping to go down to Ystradfellte and waterfall country next weekend, so would welcome any tips.
Here are a couple I've taken in the past - one long exposure (for that milky, silky look) and the other at a faster speed. Whilst not a great advocate of the 'smooth' look, I tend to go with whatever I believe will suit the comp #1 ![]() #2 ![]() Any tips, suggestions would be most welcome! ![]() Last edited by Markulous : 29-10-2006 at 20:11. Re: Waterfalls
Number one is great except for one thing.....I think the water is a little too blurred and it looks as if it is coming out of a pipe.
In number two I find the green/yellow leaves too overpowering and detracting fron the subject. |

Re: Waterfalls
Well, number one certainly holds my attention for the longest so by that logic I feel it is the better of the two.

Re: Waterfalls
I agree that number one is just a bit too strong and does look like it's coming out of a pipe. I love the spray though that it makes as it hits the water below.
The second one is a great idea, just perhaps a tad overdone with the contra-jour lit leaves used as the frame. Actually, looking at the second one again, it is really only the one strong leaf that most encroaches onto the picture that is causing the problem, without that one, the rest would make a pleasant frame and the whole shot would be good. Great idea though and well seen Mark, nice one. Cheers, Rob

Re: Waterfalls
Thought I'd just have a look and see if that leaf being removed makes a difference. I think it does but I have also toned down the lightest green a touch and cropped a little slither from the frame just to let the waterfall come back through and take centre stage. I also added the very slightest of S curves in order to just lift the darkest areas and provide a touch more contrast. I didn't spend ages doing the cloning so don't look too closely or you are likely to see it but just wanted to see if it would work.
What do you think of it with these adjustments? I think it is actually a lovely picture and I wish I had been with you as waterfalls are not common in Dorset and I love them! Just my luck, my two favourite things: waterfalls and windmills... neither of which we have much of in these parts! Anyway, hope you like it. Cheers, Rob ![]() |

Re: Waterfalls
Many thanks for the comments, everyone!
And many thanks for taking the time, Rob. Can see what you, and others, mean about the leaves being too bright. Think that maybe burning back that leaf might work better as it's left a somewhat artificial looking border Had a go at "Dreamifying" that 1st shot - this done almost entirely at the RAW stage: ![]() But think this is more dreamy: ![]() |

Re: Waterfalls
I really like the last one in your last post, Markulous. It reminds me of an enchanted mountain, or perhaps the woods behind Hogwarts. And the more I look at it, the more enchanted I am with this. It is gallery material.

Congratulations to Nick for being the first member to use Pixalo in his sleep Sleep walking I do, sleep talking I do lots of, sleep teaching I have done.... yes, true, according to my wife! But Sleep Pixalo-ing? Now that is a new one but I think it should have a name. I now hereby name Nick's unique (so far but might be catching!) condition as 'Somnipixaloism' I wonder, do we have any other somnipixaloists here? Come on now, it will help to talk about it! LOL, if Steve decides to stick a spell-checker on here, that will screw it up big time... Ok, I'll get my coat! Rob |
