Wet-minster

No, it isn't real rain, I admit it! But the sky just lent itself to having a bit of fun so I thought I'd play around and see what I got. I quite like it, what do you think?

Cheers,
Rob

Re: Wet-minster

No Lucisade on that one, just Curves applied to the mono adjustment and then the faux rain applied.

For anyone who wants to know how to do that rain thing in PS, here's how:

1. Make a new layer, set colours to black and white (Just press D)
2. Go to: Filters > Render > Clouds
3. Go to Filters > Noise > Add noise (about 100%)
4. Go to Filters > Blur > Motion Blur - adjust angle for rain direction and go for about 15-20 length (more for faster driving rain!)
5. Change that layers blending mode to 'Overlay'. I then adjust the opacity down to about 50% to avoid the effect being too heavy

When you're done, I usually take a large soft eraser and spot erase different parts with an opacity of about 20% so you can vary the rainfall and make it more realistic.

There you go, hope someone finds that useful.
Cheers,
Rob

Re: Wet-minster

Jack, the border is very simple:

Made a selection about 10 pixels in from the edge and added a 1 pixel 'stroke' line around it.
Then invert the selection (Ctrl+Shift+I) so the edge of the picture is selected, copy to new layer (Ctrl+J) and used curves to lighten it.

There you go, whether it works well here or not, it is a very useful quick border to use for other pics. You can do the same thing and add a blur to the edge selection for another effect.

Cheers,
Rob

That's interesting, thanks; I thought you might have done "screen" rather than curves to lighten but yeah, thanks

edit: and I think it does work well here

Re: Wet-minster

No probs sweet_sac, I have learnt plenty here on Pixalo and am always happy to offer my own little tutorials if it will help someone else. This place is great for 'he taught me, I'll teach you, you'll teach whoever....' We learn from each other and develop our skills.

The best thing about photography is it is not a competition. We don't have to keep secrets to ourselves about how we do things (I know a couple who think differently but I feel that is a bit of a shame) so anyone who does something a bit different, let us in on it, please! :o)

Pixalo has always been great for this and I am sure will continue to be so.
Cheers,
Rob
