What a day!
What a day!
Up at 5.30am to get down to the beach and suss the job out. Got some great shots then went clambering over rocks, slipped on a slimey one, fell down a crevice with the tide coming in, knocked the camera on the tripod into the rocks (the camera is still working fine) stuck my other hand out to steady myself and sprained my wrist plus bruised both shins and scraped the skin off them I was lying there for 10 minutes with the tide coming in, feeling nausious with the pain and couldn't push myself up with the injured hand whilst keeping the camera/tripod above water level with the other hand. To add insult to injury (pun intended) there was low cloud as the sun came up and the lighting in the shot below lasted about 10 minutes then everything was overcast. BUGGER

Sounds quite a scary scenario. Were you in danger or just working out how to get out without risking the camera?

I fell down into a gulley with the tide coming in rapidly and just couldn't push myself up so I suppose I was in some danger.
The camera was the priority of course..they don't heal themselves. If it was a 1d mkII I would have sawn my arm off to save it :naughty: |

The things people do for the perfect photo
![]() Well it could have been worse - at least no serious injuries were sustained either to yourself or your camera

The foreshore is a dangerous place when the tide is coming in. A fair number of wildfowlers lose their lives every year, partly due to under-estimating the speed at which the tide comes in, and partly to losing their bearings in the dark and getting encircled, so I don't doubt the situation was potentially dangerous.
I'm glad you're OK mate and that the gear survived. The shot is pretty good too, but how could we say otherwise when you had that much grief getting it? :icon_eek: |

Thanks gang.
It was quite fun actually. I'm numbing the pain with a nice 12 year old malt tonight but can barely lift the glass up Let it be a warning to anyone venturing out in the dark on your own with an incoming tide

I think you took that from your car window and thought "How can I spice this little beauty up with a little story ".Just kidding. Glad you're OK. Shame there was no one else there to take photos of you falling. We're a selfish lot, us photographers. One thing I have found is that when someone starts clambering somewhere potentially fall-worthy, all cameras get trained on him 'just incase'....gits...lol |
