Stepheno
I think that they just look like badly processed images. The skies in the first & third ones especially. It looks like very amateurish burning in to me

Halos are also a side effect if it's overdone.

Re: What's your opinion of.....
i like them in some cases, the first one actually looks more like a painting to me than a photo
i love the waterfall but i think the 3rd one is too much Fiona |

Re: What's your opinion of.....
I agree that when done poorly, HDR images can look wrong. That said, I really personally like #2, its very painterly, as stated previously. I like that kind of subject matter for the HDR.

Re: What's your opinion of.....
I quite like number 2.
HDR seems to give a lot of contrast to an image! |

Re: What's your opinion of.....
To me if HDR is done right, you shouldn't notice it....or at the worst be questioning how someone managed to get such a good exposure in a scenario that wouldn't allow it (eg. Interior shot of house, with view from window perfectly epxosed as well as the room)
Less is more as they say, with HDR |

Re: What's your opinion of.....
I think HDR definitely has its place but to get good results you have to control it very carefully. The first shot is way overdone and actually looks like there is less dynamic range in it than there would be in a normal version as a result of the processing. The second shot is probably the best of the three and detail has been retained without introducing any major flaws. The last is ruined due to the halo around the skyline.
I have to say that you have probably not chosen the three best pictures to experiment with HDR on in the first place, and especially one and three look as though they would have had a good range to begin with

Re: What's your opinion of.....
That is quite right Steve, they really were quite random. On reflection this forum was probably not the best place to post since the intention was to gain opinions on HDR rather than a critique of the images. Thanks for all comments though.

Re: What's your opinion of.....
I've still not quite got the whole HDR thing, i have tried it with night shots etc. but i always get a lot of ghosting around the highlights. I will have another go though maybe in a dull room or something.
I do however get on quite well with another method that i think gives more controlable results from just one image. Here's an adobe link using CS2. Resource Center / Tips & Tutorials / Advanced pixel blending |
