Wierd portraits.

Some of my family and me were playing face imprints into a tray of flour.
Strange how the face actually looks like a protrusion as opposed to an indentation.

Excellent...who need pin art. Now I would have laughed if someone rang your doorbell in the middle of all this fun.......they would have runa mile if you answered the door with flower all over yourselves

Suffering? Suffering?, I spent hours in photoshop trying to recover some contrast fom these shots.

I sense a series hanging on the wall from these. They are wonderful - fanciful and VERY different.

Well done.

I do have a question, tho....whatever posessed you to stick your faces in a pan of flour?

We were playing a family style game which has no name but entails building a small flour mountain and resting a wrapped sweet on top.
Each player in turn then removes some of the flour mountain from the base with a spoon (a bit like Jenga I suppose)
Who ever makes the mountain fall has to get the sweet out of the flour tray using their teeth.
It was at this point I noticed a photo opportunity and we spent the rest of the evening with our faces covered in flour.

I find them a touch macabre looking for wall hangings though.

Well, ya don't want to hang a bunch of boring landscapes, do you? They didn't strike me as macabre though. That is what makes horseraces, as they say.

The game sounds like fun. Weird, but fun

these are amazing. you mentioned trying it with blue flour. what if everyone had their own colour they pick themselves. very creative indeed.

Great fun Soup, and as you rightly said, because we are looking at a 2D image, it has the effect of making it look like a protruding rather than receding image.

I can't tell you the details of exactly how to do this next bit as the dimensions and angles are all vital but taking a plaster cast of the sort you did in flour, , if you build a set of mirrors where you put two together at 90 degrees and the receding image underneath and angled so it shows in the two mirrors, you will get an amazing effect: it will look like a floating 3d version of the face in front ot the mirrors. This is because you will see one image of the face as a regression and the other one as a protrusion perfectly positioned so that the two are combined. You feel like you can reach in and pick up the image even though it isn't actually there!

Now that is not something I can reproduce for you on here for obvious reasons but if you ever go to the Science Museum in London, you will see a couple of these and the effect is quite startling.

Right, i'm gonna shut up now as I have probably confused everyone big time. Where's my coat?
