Wind Farm Wales
Been wanting to 'get up close and personal' with a wind farm for a long time - and what could be more perfect than the first wind farm in Wales at Mynydd y Cemmaes near Machynlleth in Mid Wales, with it's twelve turbines.
I confess to be a supporter of wind farms but did have a couple of reservatons, like potential noise and vibration issues. But I was amazed at how quiet and solid they were. OK they're not the largest turbines but they're still big (you can just see the doorway in the silhouette shot - it's half the height of the skyline to the base). And even with my ear pressed to the column support I couldn't hear/feel much! Oh, and that was in wind speeds of approx 30 mph - not the fastest, I know, but still an indication, I feel. And the promised dreadful infrastructure of concrete roads, pylons, etc? Nothing! A small, obviously good quality track was all, nothing else. Site Track ![]() Silhouetted ![]() Angled Not to everyo's taste, I'm sure, but I liked the polarised sky and angle ![]() Side View Appropriate to have clouds - the indication/driving force of the wind farm ![]() Group ![]() I'll upload another batch tomorrow - one's that show a little more movement (which I preferred to the static look) Comments, good, bad or indifferent are always welcome! ![]()

Nice shots mark! Think the sky in the angled one is unbelievable, wonderful!
EDIT: Oh and love the second to last one! |

Re: Wind Farm Wales
Thanks, Steve!
Shutter speed for that was 1/20 in what I estimate to be a 30mph wind at that moment (early on was nearer 15mph and gradually built up to maybe 35mph by the time we left) Because of inexperience and variable wind, was firing up to 5 shots/comp in order to get what I was after! |

Re: Wind Farm Wales
I like three and four most although they are all great pictures. Three is really dramatic and if I had to choose between them all this would be it. Are the black outlines on the last one deliberately engineered or are they due to the contrast?

Re: Wind Farm Wales
Cheers, John, appreciate the comment
Well, I'd have to say that I did burn a bit (BG, so turbines more incidental but liked result) but the contrast was there, so a bit of both! ![]() |

Re: Wind Farm Wales
All great shots but the last one is outstanding! I really like the contrasting colours and the fact that they disappear into the distance, it's almost like there is a story being told although what that story is I haven't got a clue! (Hope that makes sense
