Smile Wouldn't it go faster forwards?

May seems a long time ago, but here are a few from our excursion to Ardfern, just south of Oban.

We called in at Inveraray just in time to see the Waverley departing. She's the last sea-going paddle-steamer in the world, but I can't help feeling she'd have gone faster pointy bit first.

Does anyone remember the TV series Parahandy? It was about the crew of a 'Clyde Puffer' called the Vital Spark, of which there now seem to be two - one at Inveraray and this rather tatty looking one at Crinan on a rainy day. It's one of my rare forays into mono.

An finally here's a cute robin at Arduaine Gardens...

C&C very welcome.

Ahh, the Waverley! She comes down to Penarth (my town overlooking Cardiff) every summer. Never been on her but went on the Prince Ivanhoe the day before she ran aground (and where she still is, despite years passing!)

Nice set - particularly the sepia (tho' think I'd prefer a full mast)

Re: Wouldn't it go faster forwards?

Thanks for the comments.

I'm afraid I couldn't include any more of the Spark's mast without running into the horrible grey sky!

Here's one more - an oystercatcher...

Nicely taken too - goodly comp with it moving into the space and well isolated against that sky

I like the first one and it wasn't until I read the text that I noticed it was reversing

Re: Wouldn't it go faster forwards?

ref the first shot...I bet the passengers where thinking the same thing

The second is a great shot but I can't help thinking that the boat doesn't quite stand out from the background as much as it should to really draw your attention. With a little bit of that snazzy processing you are capable of I am sure that it could easily be transformed though.

The robin is simply wonderful. Very sharp and clear, space for it to look into etc. Nothing much to say about that is there

Re: Wouldn't it go faster forwards?

Thank you!

Mono has never been my strongest suit, but I'll try to give the Vital Spark more spark.

Just for info, the robin was taken with the Canon 70-300 IS which I'm in love with. All processing was done with Bibble including desaturating the greens a little.

Re: Wouldn't it go faster forwards?

The S.S. Waverley pays regular visits down ehre to Dorset most years though haven't seen her in the last couple. She plies her trade from Bournemouth Pier along the Jurassic coastline to Portland and Chesil Beach and back. I went on her once but that was about 15 years ago, she is full of character both inside and out. Thanks for the shot, brought back memories of a lovely trip.

Cheers,
Rob

Re: Wouldn't it go faster forwards?

I looked on a few websites and was surprised how far she travelled around Britain. We hadn't known she'd be at Inveraray so the timing was just good luck. Very impressive ship, and I'd like a ride sometime.

Re: Wouldn't it go faster forwards?

My gran took me on a trip "doon the watter" in the Waverley when I was a kid, great memories. I remember the pistons inside the engine room being particularly impressive!

It's quite a frequent visitor to Ayrshire, I must take the girlfriend on it next summer!
