Yorkshire Sculpture Park
We've been a few times over the last couple of months and although I don't think I've got any shots that really do the place justice I thought I'd share some and get some feedback.
![]() ![]() ![]() As always, click for a bigger image and there's some more on my site here if anyone's interested. Thanks in advance for taking the time to look and comment. cheers Dan

Re: Yorkshire Sculpture Park
Good shots dan
The last 2 are a bit under-exposed, but the 1st one's 'perfect', with an excellent crop for good impact too; I really like this one Good comp + viewpoint in all of them. Well done |

Re: Yorkshire Sculpture Park
Thanks Charlotte, yes the second two are a little underexposed but I was trying to expose properly for the sun / sky and hope the strong lines of the sculptures carried it off.
And before anyone says I know I could tweak in PS to get closer to what I'd wanted but I'm trying not to do that at the mo in order to improve my photography. cheers Dan |

Re: Yorkshire Sculpture Park
So Dan, what are you trying to do that is aimed at improving your photography? I entirely understand your comment but I am not sure what you have done to try and make it better other than to simpliy ignore the under-exposure in favour of the correctly exposed sky. That is entirely valid, it is just the point that you said you were deliberately not doing something in order to improve. If for example you had used a graduated ND filter to balance the exposure I could see where you were coming from. I am not in the slightest criticising you, just trying to see what improvement to your photography is forthcoming here.
I like the first one, all except the strength of the shadow from the bit sticking out like a sundial. This would be hard to reduce much though as angling a reflector would be difficult and the only other way would be to shine light into that area. Perhaps a fill-in flash if you have a powerful enough gun? Not sure. Cheers, Rob

Re: Yorkshire Sculpture Park
Sorry, didn't make it clear. Not allowing myself to fix in Photoshop is forcing me to think more about my photography, a year ago I would have taken these on automatic and tweaked 'til I liked it, now at least I made an effort to control the exposure, knowing I'd have to choose between the sky and the subject. As I said I chose the sky because I felt the strong lines of the sculptures could carry it off.
I posted these as they (although I could fix them up in PS) to see what I could learn from others opinions and comments. thanks for taking the time to look, Dan |
