Re: Canon Pixma MP610

VERY GOOD REVIEW SILKSTONE. I WAS SURPRISED TO READ THAT THE 9500,DOES NOT HAVE CHIPPED CARTRIDGES, AS I HAVE CANON PRO 9000 WHICH HAS CHIPPED CARTRIDGES, WHICH IS A PAIN MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT TO USE OTHER MAKES.

Re: Canon Pixma MP610

Thanks Woody. Yes that is an advantage of the older i9500. I'm installing the 'Think' cartridges from Choice Stationery as my stock of genuine ones runs out, and so far I've not noticed any difference.

Re: Canon Pixma MP610

I HAVE LOOKED AT THE "THINK CARTRIDGES" THEY LOOK REALLY GOOD.
I CAN'T BELIEVE THE PRICE, THEY ARE CHEAP. I WOULD LIKE TO TRY THESE, IF THEY
DO THEM FOR MY PRINTER,ONLY PROBLEM IS PUTTING THE CHIPS IN THEM.

Re: Canon Pixma MP610

Stepheno uses the Think cartridges on his printer which is 'chipped'. It all works but you lose the low ink warning, so you have to keep an eye on the cartridges to see if they're running out. It can damage the print head if you run for long when a cartridge is completely empty.

Unfortunately it also invalidates the printer warranty, although I guess you could swap the cartridges for genuine ones before making a claim.

Re: Canon Pixma MP610

Yes, you have to transfer the chips for them to work at all, but you still lose the low ink warning.

Re: Canon Pixma MP610

A small update just in case anyone is interested....

Linux drivers are now available for the MP610, and they work. Please shout if you want the links to them - they're not on the Canon UK site.
