Lambency Flash Diffuser - Comparision vs standard Nikon SB800

Thought it was time to compare some shots taken with & without the Lambency Flash Diffuser.

Setup

Taken indoors, in room approx 10ft x 10ft with normal house height ceiling. Blind was pulled down on window to 3/4 way, behind camera (so still allowing some light in room)

Nikon D200, 17-55mm f/2.8 lens, Nikon SB800 Speedlight
Focal length : 55mm
Aperture : f8
ISO:100
WB: Auto
Metering : Centre Weighted
JPEG medium size

Flash: Set to TTL BL +/- 0.0 Ev

Camera was rested on top of chester drawers ( must get that tripod soon ! ) & timer used.

Results

Only resized, with no other tweaking

1st shot taken with no flash

Direct Flash - No diffuser vs Nikon Diffusion Dome vs Lambency Diffuser

Bounce Flash 60 Degrees - No diffuser vs Nikon Diffusion Dome vs Lambency Diffuser

Bounce Flash 90 Degrees - No diffuser vs Nikon Diffusion Dome vs Lambency Diffuser

Well, if I can get passed what are obviously your best mates......... Nope! Can't! You and P-E need to get together real soon, to compare cuddly toys!

And can see you're nearly as bad as me with flash photography!

I guess that you're going to get some shadow and I'm guessing you didn't go for "best" shot (when a bounce off LHS would've been better, I think)

Bounced off Ceiling at 45 Degrees - No diffuser vs Nikon Diffusion Dome vs Lambency Diffuser

Bounced off Ceiling at 90 Degrees - No diffuser vs Nikon Diffusion Dome vs Lambency Diffuser

Honestly....

Dave, now your shots just look unerexposed??? But I will point out or agree, that the second lambency shot (45 deg) has prooduced the best expsoure out of all of them, so maybe it works ?

Re: Lambency Flash Diffuser - Comparision vs standard Nikon SB800

Well I was expecting shot 7 & 8 not to work, but the Lambency Diffuser is supposed to work best in vertical position , but it's no better at 12 ft than the the 2 previous shots (thus reason for taking them , to allow comparison)

Re: Lambency Flash Diffuser - Comparision vs standard Nikon SB800

After some advice from Silky opened the lens up to f/5.6 with following result from lambency Diffuser being upright at around 12 ft away
