Quick review of Lightroom
Following Steve's thread in our News section I've since downloaded Lightroom for Windows and had a ten minute play.
As far as I can see Lightroom is not a browser - you need to import images into Shoots or Collections before viewing (rather like Windows media Player). There are four main screens Library - where you import images into shoots and collections. You can allocate Keywords. This has a Quick Develop section if you don't want to go into the main Develop screen and you can change WB, Exposure, Brightness, Contrast and Saturation. Here is a screenshot of the Library screen ![]() Develop - this section contains all the usual facilities including Presets, Crop and Straighten, Tone Curves, lens Correction and Camera profiles. There are also screens for Slideshows and Printing. So far I find it rather sluggish, but this isn't my home machine and only has 512k ram, clicks are not instantaneous. When importing RAW files it does take quite a while so it looks as though it's a bit power mad. I am an RSP user and fist signs are that I shan't change. However I will give Lightroom a fair crack before passing judgement. For an all round browser, converter and editor I can't help think that Zoombrowser does a better job. HTH. |

Re: Quick review of Lightroom
First installation was at work. I have just installed at home and it wont run. Both machines run on WXP SP2. I would have thought my home puter would be better as it's got double the memory - all I can think of is that Lightroomis causing some conflict with my graphics card.
