Rough comparison of Epson R1800 vs R2400 for Monochrome prints
OK, not the most scientific of tests, but at least it gives you a comparison of 2 prints I had sent to me from Epson for the 2 printers mentioned above. The shot below is the original I had printed :-
![]() Now here is a shot of the prints. I have tried to use minimal processing, but wanted to make sure they looked as near as possible on the screen how they look in front of me. As the shot was of both prints together, it has not impacted the comparision. ![]() Now these shots are placed inside cardboard mounts when they come, so you can't tell which is which. Funnily I went for the darker shot , as that's the processing style I normally like. But then I compared it against the original shot & found actually the lighter shot was more faithful & had managed to keep more detail & subtle toning. Only when I removed the mounts did I find the R2400 was nearest to the original. Pays your monies I suppose ![]() On closer inspection it became clear both printers were on par in the light tones, with the R1800 having no colour hues, but as soon as you head into the shadows the R1800 quickly went to complete blacks losing detail, where as the R2400 kept smooth transition of tones all the way through to the jet black. Need to send the same image for prints from the likes of Photobox now, to compare against these ![]() |
