Thumbs up 2nd pic - and I like

taken in August 06 at Holme Beach, Norfolk, this was spot the break in the clouds just before sunset - colours and hues "as is".
One of my favourite pics, even though there is a specky little seagull in the shot - still, snap the moment..... also - I lost the original and this has been PS'd so many times it's very noisy but if you can get past that, thanks

I call this "Preamble To Sunset"

Re: 2nd pic - and I like

Always love it when the sun breaks through the clouds...although I never have my camaera with me usually

Ref noise & seagull, there are ways to clear these up in PS. If you select the "image edit" option in your UserCP, it will signal to other members that you allow them to PIMP your photo if they feel they can help.......if you want them to of course I'd love ot have a go at a Mono converion if poss

Yes...I also like sunrays. Just as a point - you have a fairly large image taking only 49k - you are bound to get a lot of compression and hence degradation in IQ, as long as you don't go above 200K file size

Re: 2nd pic - and I like

This is a good example of 'always keep a .tif copy of any photo you feel you might work on again and again. Using jpeg compresses the photo each and every time you save it so if you keep going back to them and saving again and again the compression becomes a bigger problem than normal noise ever is.

The image itself is pleasant and certainly captures the sub nreaking through which is what you were aiming for. I think I would have got the break through point a bit further over to the third as the viewer's eye here is being misdirected. We usually see the brightest points of a picture first so we go to the break in the clouds here which is what you want for sure. But the rays all point towards the right of the picture which is the brightest area of sky in the picture.... going off the picture. So our eyes are being led out of the picture rather than contained within it.

You definitely saw the shot and I am certain the original was really good. If you still have the original photo, have another look at that. If not, store it in the memory bank to not allow compression of the initial photo so you always have quality to go back to

Cheers,
Rob

PS did you get any other photos that day? Might be worth checking them out to see what else you have

Listen to Rob.....he is a fount of knowledge.

Rather than saving as tiffs, which are very large, you can save in ps with psd files, smaller, and still retain all of your layers for later editing and going back.

Hi Andy,

Took up your offer of Pimping.... Don't know whether it's any better, may be a little over saturated now I look at it again, what do you think??
