Re: 60th Edinburgh Film Festival
Fantastic set of shots looks like you found the right place to be.
For me the pick of the bunch has to be Sigourney Weaver it's a lovely relaxed looking shot top marks for that one |

I glanced at the stairs and thought "They're gonna end up sitting down" so I took a kneeling position front and center, ducking underneath all the other 'togs whom were standing for the shot. This was all well and good until the head Page Ranking officer told us all to move backwards, during which time some of the other 'togs became p*ssy about the fact that I had 'barged' in front of them... bloody cheek! The rule of thumb for a press pack is Pick your spot, stick to it and if you're not blocking someone's shot, you're okay Being one of only two folks kneeling, I knew I wasn't blocking anyone else's shot, but I still ended up being pressed in on all sides by camera bodies and the ends of telephoto lenses. Still - I put it all out of my mind and concentrated solely on what I could see through the viewfinder... the rest of the shots from that particular day can be seen at "Snow Cake" UK Premier , in which you can see a good many of the other 'togs arrayed on the side opposite me (tip: I always take the same barrier as the autograph hunters... the celebs always make time for them!) |

Re: 60th Edinburgh Film Festival
Had a look your page, think I'll stick with cars and planes lol looks to much like rugby scrum, but I do see your point about being on the same side as the autograph hunters.

Re: 60th Edinburgh Film Festival
Davey,
Don't get me wrong - there were about 9 or so photographers on the same side of the barrier as me, but a few autograph hunters had snuck in between us so I knew the best position to shoot from would be next to the most vocal of them ![]() The 'scrum' aspect doesn't come into play too often but having broad shoulders and sturdy shoes certainly helps - during the entire two weeks that I was covering the festival, there were only three female photographers out of around 40 or so in total

Re: 60th Edinburgh Film Festival
I was at last years Goodwood revival when a young lady dressed as Marilyn Monroe plus four guys dressed as GI's with her being held in their arms a scrum grew repidly, pushing and shuving came to play it reminded me of my days in the rugby scrum placed between two large props. I managed to stay kinda centre and got the photo though
