Another 'product' type moody shot, of my new guitar. I know some wont like the shadow, but I think it's kinda cool.

Re: Another guitar
First comment would be to iron your background or light it less, also for me I would have prefered it without the shadow of the stand. I would like to see it with a much gentler light. Looks a nice guitar though, interesting paint effect.
You could also lay it down and take a shot along it from the bottom. |

It came factory folded and I haven't gotten round to it yet :PI was trying to think of ways to make the guitar stand up without the stand, but didn't come up with anything plausible, so decided to leave it. I have done that along the bottom shot with another guitar of mine, might try it out on this one. As for the paint, it's "relic'd"

Re: Another guitar
This is where the fun (and probably the disapproval) begins. I bought this for £179 (v cheap in guitarland), it's a Vintage Icon, and the year, ahem, is 2006 ![]() Relic'd, as in it's been attacked by a sander in the factory. I just couldn't bring myself to my a brand new shiny one, they're so boring.... I'm planning to change one of the pickups (the strips under the strings with the six dots in a line for you non guitar people), and make it a worthy instrument, although for the price it is phenominal. Tho your comment made me laugh, considering my other one (you may have seen it, shiny, blue, curvy) is 16 years old, with barely a scratch on it!

Re: Another guitar
Fender are famous for making "replica" pieces! Last year they produced 275 "new" Blackies (Eric Clapton's Strat) and sold them all at something like USD 2500 each!! But I digress ... I like the lighting on this one a lot, but also feel it would be better without the shadow of the stand.
Could you not lean it up against a chair draped with your backdrop?? |

Re: Another guitar
Sorry but no, I don't think the shadow is cool, I feel it is way too heavy and spoils it. Two other things that grate for me: it is two uprgith and so lacks any sense of dynamism. Guitars like this are not static, they are vibrant and full of life and the real aim must be to capture that in a photo.
The second thing is something that I feel needs to be thought about: some objects are irreduceable in that when less than complete they are nothing. The tuning head on a guitar is vital or the whole guitar is incomplete and unuseable therefore the object as a whole cannot be reduced without losing its sense of purpose. (And before anyone says it, I am a guitarist too and am well aware that you can get headless guitars but this isn't one of them!) I feel this guitar deserves to be seen in ALL its glory, in a picture that captures its character and its vibrancy. Go on jack, let's see what else you can get from it :o) I don't want to sound too negative and hopefully Jack knows I highly respect him as a very good photographer. My comments are only about this one pic, he has done some superb stuff too and I have said so! Cheers, Rob
