Another Place
I've been wanting to visit this location for ages - 'Another Place', Antony Gormley @ Crosby Beach. I've yet to visit his 'Angel Of The North' but, although probably not as well known, this was much higher up my list and features 100 cast iron statues on the beach. Alhough a cool breeze, weather was perfect in all other respects!
![]() The View All the statues look out to sea and are fairly well spread out, so you get those that are left high and dry and those that are in the water most of the time ![]() The Passers-by ![]() The Clouds Even the tower blocks fail to ruin the composition. Was pleased with this, seeing as I held my camera at arms length over my head (to ensure head didn't cross horizon) - surely proving that an angle finder is one of the most useful of tools (and great value!). Delberatly went for the central comp (seeing as I rarely do!) ![]() The Sky Another angle finder shot ![]() The Spectator To be fair this guy did initially start by viewing the statue (or us taking pics!) but then turned to face the sea ![]() Comments, good, bad or indifferent, all very welcome!

Re: Another Place
I've seen a few pictures of this place........
Love 3 & 4 although can't help thinking the head in #3 spoils it a little as it's the sky I like .....4 is a corker though with the full figure included |

Re: Another Place
Great shots, I really like 1 and 4. You've got some smashing detail and contrast in the figures, the excellent skies really set these off, not sure how good they'd look on a grey day.
We occasionally go over to Formby to feed the squirrels and play on the beach, I think I'll have to go to Crosby now. cheers Dan |

Re: Another Place
erm.............i feel so uncultured! ive never heard of this place, nor seen any pics of it before! where exactly is it??
In terms of the actual images, shot 1 has such deep glorious colour contrast, i think this is amazing, really draws the eyes in with its brighter than life edge. And shot 3 is stunning, really showing how windy it must have been. I would loved to have seen that shot, with the sand at the same intensity of shot 1 as the shodows just dull the image down slightly. |

Re: Another Place
Many thanks for all the commens! Much appreciated!
Just sky would be, well, just sky, P-E. And so boring! ![]() Usual deal, Dave: plain brown envelope stuffed with notes! Good to hear, Dan! Is well worth it too - tho' worth checking the tides first! Just remember, Phil, Google is your friend! 'Gormley Crosby' does it! Crosby's just north of Liverpool (in fact shot of docks taken from he beach going up today!) Did oversaturate that #1 a touch - but will look at saturation across the series Boofers, is fairly strange: shallow beach so tide goes out a long way and then dotted with the "spectators". But is a great place to visit - and it's just had the OK to remain (there was talk of the statues being dangerous obstructions to incoming foundering yachts being wind driven onto the coastline!) |
