Baby Maya – 2 weeks old

Baby Maya – 2 weeks old

Here are four shots from a photo shoot I did over the weekend for a customer. The brief was that all photos had to be done in black and white and no flash was to be used, so only natural lighting. This caused some issues and for many shots I was using shutter speeds of 1/25 sec or less handheld, even using the 50mm wide open. The parents asked for three shots initially but it looks as though they might now be taking many more.

Here are four that I like although the parents may choose different ones.

I just thought I would show you these as they are a bit different to what I usually post on the forums.

Nice stuff. That top one looks like a side profile of Bachs*

Great shots Steve, #2 is my favourite, but like them all.

Wow what a great job Steve! Those are all excellent shots. I wasn't aware that you did this sort of thing. I think #2 is absolutely adorable. Those eyes looking straight at you are priceless. I like the DOF in #3 as well. Parents always buy more than what they want too especially if the work is as great as yours. Got more to show us??

They're all lovely shots Steve, the parents should be delighted.

As a matter of interest how do you intend to have these printed?

The baby's mother is a graphic designer and so has access to better printing facilities than I, plus she has full control over the final output as well. The deal was I did the shoot, and editing to my standards then passed over the files for her to get printed as she sees fit.

Thanks for the comments, I am glad you all like them

#3 is excellent.

The first one is interesting - it obviously works and I would never have considered a crop where the top of the head is cut off. Helps define the baby as the subject.

HeHe! I can see the similarity

Steve, these are great images.
It's my turn in February and you've given me some good ideas for poses.
Really looking forward to it!

Great shots Steve & fair play for the parents to have good taste in terms of natural light & B&W . I actually reckon the bloke looked like the one out of the fast show who does the "saving energy" Ads.

Just looking at these again, and the parents have really got some wonderful pictures there. The only thing that I would argue the toss over is that you can see the nappy in the 2nd shot... understandable because from my experience 2 week old baby poo is fit for nothing if not resurfacing motorways, but it detracts a little from that one for me. I couldn't work out why before.

Wel ldone though - they are lovely pics
