Birds of a feather
(Sort of a continuation of this post from yesterday: http://www.pixalo.com/community/phot...ens-25304.html)
Out again today testing my new lens, and I'm getting more and more pleased with this one. The results from todays (hopefully not last) trip: ![]() The camera is set to ISO200 and Pmode. I'm still a bit unsure of the exposure in this kind of shot. Was very pleased with the framing on this one, as it's no crop straight off the camera. Hey! I managed to NOT clip it's wings .![]() Found this little chap roaming in the long grass looking for worms. I've cropped off some of the FG, but it still is very noisy. Wish the grass was shorter, but it only got longer to the sides. Thanks for looking

Re: Birds of a feather
[quote][I'm still a bit unsure of the exposure in this kind of shot/QUOTE] I'm always unsure about this kind of shot. Usually start with about + 1 stop or more then work from there with a few trial shots although it is difficult to determine the right one until you get it on the big screen is showing. With something like this it's difficult to get detail in both the shadow and highlighted parts of a white bird. If it was a white bird over the sea I would be doing the opposite and giving about 2 stops under to retain detail in the white body.

Re: Birds of a feather
For the Gull I would probably have used the high speed mode on the camera with exposure bracketing. Typically I set the exposure bracket at 2/3 stop intervals and then set then also dial in -2/3 stops of compensation as well. That gives an exposure range of -1.5 stops to 0. After the first few shots I review the histograms and adjust if necessary.
