Re: Infrared Thread.

I learn something most times I use it. But I like to experiment with it, much easier now I have the IR conversion. The IR Filter stuff was more restrictive due to the long shutter delay. Might be tempted to get another one - maybe a point and shoot super gold colour one.

Re: Infrared Thread.

What is a super gold color one ? I wasn't going to say anything but we seem to be closer to the same road when going for interesting IR. The web site I use, Lifepixel said out of stock, I signed into my account and sent my last extra camera in for conversion to pure Ultraviolet. A 20D I'm thinking might have been better to look for a used 40D on this camera. I have notice I will get it in about two weeks or less. I don't know if being a member gave an edge or they never updated their site page. Very happy. But very uneasy about UV, it looks like I will be ok. Are you referring to the one they call the Goldie? I haven't bought a camera for this but my first one, there are a lot of used cameras out there for good prices,,like KEH.com or even B+H.

The blue tint on the water looks better then the other one. I sure like the way the old worn look of the cement came out in IR.

Very nice - Like this more than the other version. Both have their own good qualities, but this seems to have some eerie atmospheric ghostly feel to it to me.

Re: Infrared Thread.

Well this really looks Alice in Wonderland like. I'm assuming it is some composite image giving here the height to the trees or is it. Be interested to see you final version.

Re: Infrared Thread.

it's not a composite, trees are quite little and the angle is shooting upwards,. when I posted it I had a feeling I was going to change how it looked (first 'edition' is not normally the one I end up with) but I've since played with it a bit more and I'm not sure the newer versions are adding anything

alice in wonderland was very much the feel,. it's a bridal image from a wedding

Re: Infrared Thread.

I did wonder about the trees - seeing as the nearer one is much bigger. But was not sure - hence the question.

I think the angle and shot have really worked well for this fairytale image.

thanks! very often IR is not going to add anything but with the right weather and location it's worth a play,. at some point I will likely find time to re-fiddle and see what else might work but b+w style is always a safe bet

Inspired by Boofers attempts in the road to invisible light thread - and from that nice link to flickr by Silver here's an attempt by me at that EIR look - Full Colour shot and Enhanced IR merged via channels.

Re: Infrared Thread.

Geez, I would say it was a like a group poker game and some good conversation, concerning inspiration. Might bring up silvers reference about Degas and the straight tree in the upper right. Love the time of day and the shadows but whats really good and stands out for me is the way the branches have a nice range of colors the make up a beautiful texture in the trees. Impressive and enjoyed the fun of it all as your picture conveys.

Re: Infrared Thread.

Thanks - yes it was the conversation and a whole bundle of info that I found that made me try this. I love finding new things and ideas to play with - even if they don't work.

The way I did this was from a link on that flickr page that silver posted in that thread. Essentially it is the following...

1) I took a full colour pic on 50D. And a pic with my Enhanced IR 20D. Both on tripod to get same frame.

2) Aligned and resized the 50D PS with the IR shot.

3) Make new image of same size.

4) Paste my (only auto-leveled) IR shot into new Red Channel.

5) Paste Red Channel of Colour shot into the new Green Channel

6) Paste Green Channel of Colour shot into the new Blue Channel.

That's it.

Digital replacement (emulation) of colour infrared Ektachrome (EIR) film | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

I got some of colour blotches on that tree, I guess some selective colour would clear them up.

Re: Infrared Thread.

Here's some other shots I took - these just my IR camera with blue sky swap - and some toning.

Used a bit of topaz adjust - HDR medium smooth to give extra zap to the colours.

I liked the old tree with the autumn fall of the one behind.

This is a backlit tree - which i liked & then played with Topaz Simplify to create a painterly look.
