That's a failed one!

Very nice toning. It is true the noise can be pushed out a bit, especially if you push the colours too much. Or maybe it is exposure....I don't really know...though it seems to be worse for me on some shots than it is on others.

Yeah true.. you can get a cracking pin sharp and perfect blue sky one day. . Then greyish blue and noise all over the place. .

The frustration is... is not being able to pin point it to something specific. . Ie: a haze in the sky... or something else. ..

On my Pintrest I have been following Some other photographers who have got the processing of infrared down to a T... I would also say that this is my drive and goal to produce work to this sort of standard... Seen Here

Two shots from today. Walking along the old Ringwood Railway path. Overlooking the flooded fields from the River Avon.

The first a toned BS shot.

The second a B&W conversion.

I would stay on your own course of work. Pick up an idea an give it a try,,but always stay in your own realm. I have a filter on the front of my very first camera that will take slow mo pictures and all I can do is cry because I never have running water.

Makes the sky look quite threatening in #1. Interesting total contrast between the sky and the ground features. Was this the lighting or as a result of processing ?

Thanks guys.

The sky came up storm black, but the foreground was lit by the sun. So although it is processed there was something like it. This was a prelude to me getting hailed on 15 mins later...

Hi, I don't mean to be a pain... But could i ask you for support in a Infrared project i am trying..

For The Grand Launch. These four categories will work one-to-one with their mentors

over the course of 2-3 weeks, to bring their ideas and ambitions to life. They'll also

get access to Samsung's best technology and we'll follow their stories as part of a

four-part Sky 1 HD series.

My category is photography and here is my link to click the support logo... Here

voting closes on the 6th of march... so 4 days to go.

Thank you in advance for your support...

Re: Infrared Thread.

Now that is a great selection of different processing. I am struggling to pick the one I like the best.

Your skies in the last two are very smooth, this processing or your cameras performance. My old 20D struggles at some ISO's I put it at.

Like the processing in top left - with those false colours - make the rock look almost diamond like. As when you push the colours the sky suffers a tiny bit.

Makes me feel the need to get out on a nice day with my IR camera.

Great selection there Adee. Do you find one method works better for certain subjects, or does it not really matter, you just get a different effect?

Re: Infrared Thread.

Hi, I find the processing on the tree to be the easiest one, Normally the sky takes a big hit and grain is a problem... I have managed to work around this after trying several different techniques.

Doing a false colour i would say is the hardest one, trying not to loose detail in the photo... also the hardest thing to achieve in a infrared photo is depth.....

Still a working progress... lol

Re: Infrared Thread.

Theses are wonderful, I don't have face book ether. Just check in with the wife's account. As for the noise and grainy look, I use the super blue with any camera I want a blue sky and stack and blend. The lens I have that works with a clean picture is the EF 28-300mm. My favorite for any light. If you look back at some of the cameras, the 20D and 30D do not leak any light. Most of the others do. What this means in the form of grain I don't know. I am now looking for a used 30D because I am comfortible with the limits it works in. I remember going thru a faze of painting blue skys but the best channel swap was always atleast 180 degrees away from the sun.

Re: Infrared Thread.

I am going for #4 & #2, 4 has a fence . Fences are a natural way of bringing lines into your pictures. I have been wanting to ask if you and adee when you do your color swap ever use hue/ saturation. Either way by it self or together it can smooth out blues. Another question, what has turned out to be your favorite IR lens?
The grass seem so soft and draw you into the pictures.

Re: Infrared Thread.

Thanks Stephen.

I don't use hue/saturation when I perform the colour swap, but the do sometimes use it after the swap. In these ones with colour above, I have not done any hue / saturation changes. I did use Nik/Google Viveza 2 to play with structure, brightness, shadows and contrast a bit.

My favorite IR lens is my Canon 17-40mm L.

I was lucky a few years back, the 17-40 was my wifes walk around, she ask more reach and I had just picked up the EFs-18-200mm. Talk about a wonderful lens for a hand me down,,,I was going to bring up once more how much I like the EF28-300 f/3.5L. Very heavy but it is an absolutely speck on the spot for natural shooting IR,,,Also very sharp in the light change. We don't often talk about lenses for light off the visible ends . It's been nice having you speak up about some techniques, like the software. I have Topaz but have only looked at Nik,, I am a little gun shy because I have some really nice software That went out of business like bought out that Makes my feet cold. Thanks for sharing.

Hi, I use the channel mixer only... After I would use it to add extra colours back in to the photo. I also use NIk HDR Pro to pop out the features.

Best lens I used eas a Nikkor pre AI 24mm... but now use the standard 18 - 55mm kit lens.. no hot spots and moderately sharp. .. used the same lens to photo a red flower in front of a blue sky.. and Desert locusts im breeding for photos. (in my portfolio).

In Nik colour Efex... I use the white naturalizer at the bottom of the list to give me whites and not cream grass and trees..

Interesting,,,i don't have the soft wear but I like the cream colored grass, just not the yellow so much. I think the best white grass that worked out to blend in to a stack was just a red blue swap.

Question have you ever used a macro lens for IR, ,,,I like the deep soft out of focus that also will bring some deep dark blue.

Some more

This one I used Adees tip about the White Naturalizer. I also added the soft focus filter from Color Effects too.

Again used the White Naturalizer

Got some real glow in this one - prefer the B&W.

A black and white tree

And same tree colour swapped and the could not resist a hue swap for a nice touch of pink

Yes I have - the 100 works well, I think they may be in this thread or somewhere else on here. Have examples in this post I did a while ago

Re: Infrared Thread.

Oh I forgot my freaky zoom burst.

Am not sure if I get more yellow in the shot due to my cameras filter
