The street performer - Edinburgh Fringe

This started out as a simple snap of a street performer and, by degrees, I have altered the original picture. I'm just interested in general comments, especially is it a bit ''over-worked''? My intention was to make something simple into something dramatic!

Nope! I will have to shout for help. My pictures came out as thumbnails first time round, with [/IMG] on either side. In trying to get rid of the [/IMG] - something went wrong. I'll try again tomorrow.

Like the middle one best

I think you might have been highlighting just part of the code before you selected it

Re: The street performer - Edinburgh Fringe

I was using the ''insert image'' box; the little square whatdyamcallit with the mountains and sun, and it opened a window to paste the url in. When I ignored that and simply pasted straight into the text box, that sorted the problem.

Anyway, back to the photos. The middle one is ''natural'', ie; as taken, albeit cropped. I then used Photoshop to lassoo the background and replaced that with plain grey.
The ''statue'' was bending down offering a small boy an Opal Fruit (or whatever they call them these days) after the lad had placed a coin in the performer's collection box.

Think that if you're after a more dramatic image you need to start with a wider shot, leaving more room for the "drama" - especially with a relatively simple subject like this. Having said that, your middle shot's a nice bit of selective editing to isolate the subject!

Re: The street performer - Edinburgh Fringe

Hi Mark, I know what you mean about getting a wider image. The original was messy and cluttered and the photo almost became a 'delete' until I zoomed in on the face. The ''statue'' was holding the little boy's jumper as he teased him with an Opal Fruit, and I wanted to cut that out. Also there's an unsightly shadow on his right arm which looked 'wrong' when I went in to crop!!
I'm just experimenting so all comments are welcome, especially if someone can suggest any improvements.

Yes, I like the last one as it is but I wonder if a little bit of selective blurring of the background would help to focus attention on the performer or would it destroy the participation of the audience.

Re: The street performer - Edinburgh Fringe

Fiona, it was perfect weather for the Fringe on Saturday. There wasn't a cloud in the sky and it was actually hot!!!
That poor little lad didn't know what to make of the 'statue' who kept 'almost' giving him the Opal Fruit and then resuming a pose with his hands in the air. It was those antics which caught the attention of the crowd.
Right! I've cropped the photo to bring the ''statue'' forward. Any better?

John, I've only just managed to work out how to get rid of the background altogether. 'Selective blurring' - now that's a whole new trick I've yet to fathom.
