Re: zoo pics, marwell
Nice shots silver! I particularly like the last two. All very sharp, with good use of selective focus

I think they are good!
I'd like to know what selective focus is? I'll give it a go when I find out! |

Re: zoo pics, marwell
thanks all
![]() I have tried and failed to get interesting penguin shots in the past,. I like the open mouth one, mostly because I've never seen the weird 'barb' things in it's beak - is strange penguin - well all the pics are taken quite close, hence the background blurs quite easily even at high-ish fstops, penguin is probably 3ft away or less Sil |

I'd still like to know what selective focus is so I can try the technique!
Anybody? |

Re: zoo pics, marwell
Excellent - I know how difficult it is to expose black swans properly. You've nailed these four nicely.

Love the baby penguin. Did you see our new baby giraffe too? (I'm a volunteer up at Marwell)

Re: zoo pics, marwell
If you're up there a lot and like photography do you know there is a yearly photo contest? Any photos taken throughout the year are eligible - 3 categories, animal, scenary, humourous. I've got more details if you don't know about it. Entries for this year are due by September time I think.

Re: zoo pics, marwell
the birds are amazing but, the swan is superb, the eye and beak really stand out, black can be tricky to shoot, well done

Re: zoo pics, marwell
No question, the penguins and the black swan are excellent. The flower shot does nothing for me whatsoever so I'll leave that one alone. But the penguin with the open beak is excellent and shows real detail interest. Front shots of penguins are hard at wide apertures as the front of the beak is invariably soft if the eyes are sharp and that is the case here but when taken sideways on, you get fantastic detail and this one is as good as you're going to get, cracking shot.
Cheers, Rob |
