General Rules, Signature and Avatar Guidelines


Thank you all for being a part of this growing community.

In order to prevent problems and keep the community running smoothly, please follow these simple rules. If you have any questions or problems, contact one of the Crew, we are here to help you.

General Rules:

• While debating and discussion is fine, the Crew will not tolerate rudeness, insulting posts, personal attacks or purposeless inflammatory posts. Our decision is final in these matters.
• Bad language and swearing is not tolerated, these forums are provided for everyone regardless of age so please bear that in mind when posting.
• The Crew also does not allow posts that are sexual in nature or violate the Pixalo Community standards. The Crew shall be the sole arbitrators of what does and does not violate Pixalo Community standards.
•The Crew reserve the right to edit or remove offensive posts, or posts that fall outside the Pixalo Community standards without notice.
• Advertising, Spamming and Trolling are not allowed. This includes using the Community email and Private Message system to Spam other members.
• Each member is allowed one login account. Registering with multiple accounts is not allowed.
• While we are quite happy to have constructive comparative conversations about manufacturer’s products and services, we would appreciate it if you refrain from blatant bashing of products or other bulletin boards.
• We do not allow members to post threads or to send private messages or emails to users here that advertise or solicit any products or services for commercial gain.
• ANY opinions expressed on this forum are those of the individual member and do NOT necessarily represent those of the Crew, the Administrators or the Pixalo Community.
• If you believe that another member’s posts, comments or demeanour are not acceptable. Use the forum report system. It will inform the Crew of the issue and allow us to deal with it and your concerns impartially. The crew will never discuss or disclose with the third party who has reported the issues.
• Any disputes will be dealt with fairly and as quickly as possible. Do not take your problem on to the community forums, or use the private messaging system or e-mail to attack or castigate other Community members.
• The decisions of the Crew are final but if you feel we have made a mistake please PM the Crew directly.
• We reserve the right to suspend, or in extreme cases, ban the accounts of anyone who wilfully violates the forum rules
• While these rules cover most common situations, they cannot anticipate everything. Consequently we reserve the right to take any actions we deem appropriate to ensure the community, or any of its members are not disrupted or abused in any way.
• It is YOUR responsibility to be aware of any changes posted here. Please check back from time to time.

Links Rules

1) To counteract spammers, members may not post links until their post count exceeds 5.

Members may then post links to useful information or images on other websites, including personal websites, but we will not allow links to be used for the blatant advertising or promotion of these sites. The Crew have discretion in deciding if members are keeping within the spirit of this rule, and will edit posts that they consider do not conform.

2) Two personal web-site links may be included in your signature and up to three personal web-site links included in the dedicated member’s web-site section of the site, provided the rules for this section are observed.

Signature Size Limits

• We allow text signatures: 5 lines normal size and up to 90 characters per line. Font sizes above 2 are not allowed. (Blank lines count as lines.)
• Picture signatures are allowed but should be no larger than 75pixels high by 250 pixels wide and a files size of 15kb or less.
• Either text or a picture signature is allowed, but NOT both.
• Animated and rotating signatures are NOT allowed.
• Linking to two personal websites in your signature is permitted provided they are not a website or service that competes with Pixalo and the site is not sexual or does not violate the Pixalo Community standards.
• If you include a link to your personal web-site in your signature, or in the members web sites section, it would be nice, and benefit the community here if you would also place a link back to Pixalo.

Avatars

• You may select a personalized avatar of no larger than 100 x 100 pixels and a file size of 10 kB or less.
• Animated and/or rotating avatars are NOT allowed.

The Crew will remove and/or disable any signatures and avatars that do not comply with these rules or that are considered offensive.

Extra information on signatures.

Pixalo runs Conditional Signatures. This basically means that your signature (if you use one) will not always appear. It will only ever appear once in any one thread and then only if one of your posts is long enough. The reasons for this approach is to keep the length of the thread content to the number of signatures under control, encourage quality, well thought out posts and replies, and retain/increase Pixalo’s search engine optimisation to benefit the members and Pixalo.

The two main uses for signatures on Pixalo seem to be to list your personal camera equipment or promote your own sites. Please remember that for camera equipment we have the facility to list that in your user control panel so that it is then available for all to view via the button that appears under every one of your posts, and for websites we also have the Members Website List (as well as allowing up to two links to personal sites in signatures).
