Gary Fong Lightsphere
Having recently acquired both a Gary Fong Lightsphere AND a Nikon SB-800 (thanks Dave
The diffuser is available in Clear or Cloud versions. This one is the 'Cloud' version that is supposed to give softer light. See what you think. All of these shots are straight from camera and have NO processing other than to REMOVE the 25% sharpening default in Lightroom and then into PS for resizing. 1. No flash. Lit from large window to RHS, about 5 feet away. The vase is about 12" from the wall. 55mm 1/50 f5.6 ISO200 (Aperture Priority mode) ![]() 2. As above but with GF diffuser 55mm 1/60 f5.6 ISO200 (Aperture Priority mode) ![]() 3. Encouraged by earlier results, this one is in the conservatory. No without flash reference for this one I'm afraid. 40mm 1/200 f5.6 ISO200. ![]() 4 Next two were taken at night with no lighting in the conservatory at all - just the flash light. This one with flash set to TTL BL (balanced fill) mode 40mm 1/60 f5 ISO200 ![]() 5. This one as above with TTL mode 40mm 1/60 f5 ISO200 ![]() When I've got some more to show, I'll post them. I have reviewed the Lambancy whaletail v Gary Fong Lightsphere here.

Re: Gary Fong Lightsphere
Here are some more shots. Just happy snaps of my Grandson at play - or wrecking the house! I think the lighting is pretty good as they were just snatched as and when I could
One interesting point is that although I had the camera and flash set to TTL metering, the EXIF shows manual ![]() 1 ISO 200 - 38mm - 1/60 - f5.6 ![]() 2 ISO 200 - 35mm - 1/60 - f5.6 ![]() Next two had light from a large window about 10 feet from the subject over my right shoulder as well as the flash 3 ISO 200 - 30mm - 1/80 - f5.6 ![]() 4 ISO 200 - 32mm - 1/80 - f5.6 ![]() I'm still finding out what works best in using the Gary Fong diffuser, but I remain impressed with it. Some time ago, as an experiment, I took some shots of my bathroom using three diffused maual flashes. I got as good a result with the GF diffuser with one flash in a fraction of the time with fewer hotspots too. I did not keep any of these shots, so you'll have to take my word for it ![]() I have reviewed the Lambancy whaletail v Gary Fong Lightsphere here. |

Re: Gary Fong Lightsphere
And another ... taken with Canon 40d and Sigma 18-50mm EX DC Macro. Just a quick edit in photoshop to create a black & white layer and then slightly pull opacity slider back to show a hint of the colour beneath.
