I have not heard of that seller before but it seems that overall his feedback is pretty good and he also allows pick up. That normally a pretty good sign of a trustworthy seller.

Ref the F4 I think its just an error in the main description as virtually everywhere else it is described as the f2.8. If you are interested it could easily be clarified with by dropping him a email or asking him a question on the auction

Yes after reading through the auction I came to the conclusion it was prob an error.

I've emailed him already enquiring about the difference in price on the two 300mm IS 2.8L lenses he has on ebay

I emailed him and his reply was;

I have f/4 in there, so that when one searches for "canon 300mm" this one and the 300mm f/4 will show up...marketing trick.
However, as description clearly states, you would be getting a 300mm f/2.8 IS.


The difference in price with the two he has on sale is that one he accepts Paypal and the other one he doesn't.

I've sent him several emails and he has always answered politely and promptly

f4 is just in the title at the top, while the rest of the listing says f2.8 all the way thru, so I would take it as f2.8. BUT it's as well to watch out for these things, especially something like this that costs a lot of money, because if you do end up with something other than what you were expecting, you would have a problem taking it up with ebay or paypal if the description within the listing is deemed as 'correct'.

Well I paid for the lens on Monday evening and took delivery of it today ......on this sale I can fully recommend this ebay power seller.

I hope to get over to Chatsworth House country fair this weekend to give it a work out.

I'm pleasantly surprised with the weight of the lens.......OK it's not exactly light but it is OK to hand hold for short bursts.

The other thing is it does balance lovely on a 1D.......if I carefully just hold it in the palm of my hand, it sort of tips towards my body and not away from it as I would imagine it would on a smaller camera body.........if you know what I mean.
