Re: MB-D10 Battery Grip for D300, Save £100
A great find Charlotte
, thanks.Having read a bit about the grip, I'm not sure the grip is really required unless you either want: 1. the duplicated controls for portrait mode shooting; or 2. the extra fps the grip with en-el4 batteries gives you The battery life on the D300 is reputed to be twice (or more) that of the D200 - with plenty of people saying they can shoot all day on a single battery. I'll probably get one eventually, but will wait for the price to drop quite a bit before I do. |

Does it not also give you 8 fps vs 6fps normally though ? perfect for your architecture shoots Pete

Re: MB-D10 Battery Grip for D300, Save £100
There's a review I did of it here along with one by VinnyP, but aside from self promotion, I think having the grip makes it stand up to the older Nikon 'one digit' series like the D2x, because of the added frame rate etc, and superb battery life.
Good find Charlotte, I think that's a steal really |

Starts to get expensive. However 8fps might be useful to shoot them blowing up blocks of council flats ![]() |

Re: MB-D10 Battery Grip for D300, Save £100
Actually I'm thinking the grip would be very useful for ...
But does it make the camera much heavier (I'm only a girl ) Holding my D50 up for look-up shots during my recent jaunt to Winchester Cathedral made my arms ache a little ![]() |

Re: MB-D10 Battery Grip for D300, Save £100
you could just get some rechargable L-ion AAs and then you'd have no trouble.
Gimme a sec char and I'll do a weight run down for you. Not on comp ATM. Last edited by JMitchell : 15-03-2008 at 23:34. |

Re: MB-D10 Battery Grip for D300, Save £100
Right. Well as you know the camera itself is going to be heavier than the D50. Lucky for you I have both cameras right here in front of me, so I can say that for sure. Naturally adding the grip also adds to the weight, but conversly, it also adds to the balance. it enables your hand to grip a slightly longer area without your fingers falling off the end, and adds bottom heaviness to the camera. So although it is heavy, you should be able to balance the weight if you're shooting with two hands. The AA batteries are also heavier than having any of the Li-ion batteries.
Adding an SB800 with 5 AAs onto the top of that really does make it rather heavy, but I can deal with it. As you mentioned, you might not like to. I think the bonus of having the portrait orientation functionality far outweighs (as it were) the problems of over-heaviness, but that's just my opinion. HTH Jack

(1) here:- http://www.pixalo.com/reviews/showpr...duct/310/cat/3
When I gave my D200 + 17-55mm f/2.8 lens & SB-800 to hold, she thought the weight was a joke ...... the word brick comes to mind, or did I mishear her ![]() If I had the D300 I would only have the grip for shooting sports, or if I did a lot of portrait work. With the D200 I have no problems carrying camera in my hand with a heavy lens fitted ... the body moulding makes it a comfy fit to the hand. (My personal view only of course ) |
