Norton Security.

My Norton Security expired a couple of weeks ago they kept sending reminders and wanted 49.99 to renew for five devices. I thought if I held off the price might come down. But no. In the meantime I downloaded the free Avast security the cover it gives is very limited to get more you have to buy. As soon as it was downloaded my computer slowed down from start up to internet it was a real pain.
I looked for prices on the net for Norton and the best price was Curry's 29.99 a saving of 20. I hate Curry's but had no choice so went to my local store. I want Norton Security I asked the girl. We have McAfee, I want Norton. But MacAfee is very good it covers Blaa Blaa Blaa. I want Norton. We have Norton Cloud it covers Blaaa Blaaa. I want Norton Security. Ok here it is 29.99.
It comes as a piece of printed cardboard with the licence number as a scratch card. Just scrape it off and follow download instructions, quite simple and quick.
Computer is back to full speed now that Avast has gone. Not much wonder I hate Curry's.

Re: Norton Security.

There's certainly plenty to choose from in the AV area. I never liked the way Norton hijacked the registry and all the others have their faults too - I've tried most and eventually settled on MSE, free and does the job quickly.

PS I agree about Curry's but they are the only national electrical retailer, where you can walk in and view the goods before buying......and I wonder if we'll have a Currys much longer.

Re: Norton Security.

Stepheno, The day before I ran a scan with Avast and it found nothing, the next day and the computer had not been used in the meantime I ran a full scan after installing Norton and it found and fixed 26 low risk things. So I think this proves a difference, and the amount the Avast slowed the computer was unbelievable.

Re: Norton Security.

I think the problem your system slowed down was because you had two anti virus system installed.

If you had completely uninstalled Norton before installing Avast, it shouldn't have slowed down your pc.

Even after uninstalling Norton, there are still traces of it left on your system. You need to go onto the Norton website to download their uninstall software before it is 'completely' uninstalled from your system. It's a two step process.

Both system have their merits.

I hope that helps in clarifying why your system might have been crawling.

Re: Norton Security.

I use a combination of Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes Premium. Combined they have covered me with no apparent issues.

I've never been a fan of Norton for same reasons that Stephen and Vicar have highlighted, but I know people who use it and are happy.

Don't get me started on Curry's though
