Road trains

Imaging trying to pass this on a narrow hwy at night mate sent me this he was traveling out of Port Headland north of Perth WA and it was 11pm very remote place and he thought just a normal truck what a shock

They take some time to wind up but once they get going they just chuck a brick on the accelerator and full bore over 100kph and they have right of way every time lol

This is how much of the materials fuel gravel many other items get transported and this is a small one

I asked if I can post this and

just imaging this going down the M1 and 70 pluss MPH

Re: Road trains

EXCELLENT SHOT, GREAT RIG.
I DROVE ARTICS FOR SEVERAL YEARS, AFTER I CAME OUT OF THE ARMY.
I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO DRIVE A ROAD TRAIN

Re: Road trains

reverse is some thing you cannot do some have over 15 trailers connected to them

they are used in remote part of Australia and they need a good truck driver to drive them it take a cetain skill set

they cannot see the back of the truck because of the dust I think Michael Palin had a ride in one from Darwin to Alice

Palin's Travels: Darwin, Australia, Full Circle, Day 126

There is a area set aside out side many towns that trucks in single or double trailers are take out and they brake and down and rebuild the road trains sadly many city people have not had much to do with them and do not give way or slow down when they pass as I said they have right of way all the time

they take time to wind up and slow down

Re: Road trains

How long does it take them to brake to a standstill, must be quite a distance and brakes would be red hot in an emergency .

Re: Road trains

they take some time and a major problem with the rear trailer is they get stuck on and the brake unit is glowing red

they also use air brake with the engine

basically bit like the titanic long time to get going and stop lol
