Blur/Desaturate Background
Open your Image Press the Q key or press the Quick Mask Mode Button (1) Brush object, it will look like this (2) when done. Press the Q key or press the Quick Mask Mode Button again, it will take you out of Quick Mask Mode (1) Go to Select/Inverse (or Press Shift+Ctrl+I) this will select the object you brushed. Press Ctrl+J This will copy the object in a New Layer (3) Name it Flower Click here (4) and create a Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer and move the Saturarion Slider to -100 (5) click OK. Drag the Background Layer and create a New layer (6) and you will get a Background Copy (7) Select the Hue/Saturation Layer and press Ctrl leave it pressed and click on the Background Copy and you should have both Layers selected (8), when they are both selected press Crtl+E this will merge those two Layers. Now you only have three Layers: Flower, Hue/Saturation, Background (9) Select the Background Layer and go to Filter/Blur/Gaussian Blur (10) set the Slider to whatever you like, in this case I set it to ten (11) and click OK. Now select the Hue/Saturation Layer and move the opacity to whatever you like, in this case I set it to 70% (12) ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ (OPTIONAL STEP) ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Press Crtl click inside the Flower Thumbnail in the Layer Pallet, that will select the flower go to Edit/Copy now go to File/New (or Press Ctrl+N) press Ok in the Box that pops up in that New Workspace go Edit/Paste (or Press Ctrl+V) now go to my Color Boost Tutorial and follow those steps, when done make sure the flower is still selected in the first image you were working on if not Press Crtl and lick inside the Flower Thumbnail in the Layer Pallet again, once selected go back to the Color boosted flower and press the V key (this will select the Move Tool), Now press Shift and grab the color boosted Flower and drag it to the Selected flower in the original workspace. It will create a new layer play with the opacity if you like. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ You can use this in almost any Image, It works very good in Wedding Images. Theres many more tweaks you can apply to this tutorial if you are familiar with Photoshop you should know, if you're not ask me and I'll help you as much as I can. Sample 1 Sample 2 (One tweak is, you can skip steps 4-9 and just Blur the background to you liking) ENJOY !!!!

Re: Blur/Desaturate Background
Thanks for that Sotelo. There is a tutorial already about using Quick Mask to make a selection but good to have a reminder of this tool as it is often overlooked by people trying to make a tricky selection when in fact it is very easy with this method

Re: Blur/Desaturate Background
Thank you for the Tutorial!
I shot on my son's Kommunion some pictures and on the one I liked most, there is a guy in the background who stands exactly behind his candle which totally spoils the scene. I wil try to blur the background to focus on my son! |
