Again picked up this hint from last nights Camera club session, where the presenter showed a cracking shot of a Red squirrel, on the ground eating a nut.
He stated that if you put a hazlenut on the ground (a fave for the squrrels) it would come down & grab it, but then shoot off back up the tree to eat it. No good . BUT, if you crack the hazlenut ever so slightly, the squirrel will eat the nut, there on the ground , making it easier to take a shot Anyone want to try it out

Re: How to get a Squirrel to pose for you ;)
There's a Grey Squirrel that runs along the fence at my better half's place, I might just have to see if I can tempt him in for a quick meal now
Thanks for the tip, keep your ears open for more |

We get loads of grey squirrels in our garden, they take great delight in teasing the hounds! I might just give this a try this weekend, weather permitting!

Ground littered with cracked hazlenuts - not a Red Squirrel to be seen. Nor even a Grey!

You'd be better finding a few red or grey squirrels first

Well it's obvious really..... News story 5 years on
"Squirrels wiped out by Predators, as they take to eating on the ground instead of safety of Trees" ![]() Cripes, can't believe we may have an impact on the future of British wildlife & future forests. Quite a repsonsibility we hold here

Lazy gits not prepared to travel up from Isle of Wight or down from Scotland? No wonder they're in short supply! Typical Ginger behaviour!
Lack of trees here may also be a contributory factor!

Re: How to get a Squirrel to pose for you ;)
I am off to Brownsea Island tomorrow - one of the largest colonies of red squirrels in the UK bot darned if they ever show their fizzogs when i am about! - so am gonna have a bag of hazelnuts handy along with a mallet to crack em open with. I could have used my head but then I do have nut allergy and that could pose a real quandary for the doctors: 'Well, he definitely died from nut allergy related anaphylaxis but we can't find a single nut in his stomach!'
If I die because the oils from the nuts got me, I am coming back to haunt the lot of you.... but I'll focus mostly on the Nikon users <weg> Cheers, Rob
