Last one - part three
Well I think thats it as Ive had my first paid job, have some work coming in and really have done all I can do to set up so its just a case of building now.
So I thought as a final thread i would summarise my thoughts and a bit of an update OK so I have today got the final website, I had a free one but that wont cut it anymore I cannot use freewebs.this.that. me for professional useage lol It has been worth its weight in gold - thanks freewebs Strongly recommend going for the specialist sites for artists and tog's simply because the amount of admin that comes with this job just doesnt make it easy to start getting angry with dreamweaver. Photium is who Im with and so far the service has been excellent. The job I did on saturday (native show) off the back of that I have some work with the mag I was talking about for two more events. I have put advertising into place and found a few more locals to get some ads into. This week its just the planning for the next event to do, its going full time quickly but Im under no illusion after next week I may not have work for weeks! but I dont mind the unstable income thing as the freedom of working for myself far outweighs it. I know a lot of people have been nervous about the talking to people bit, I have to say I was the most shy teenager you could meet, but not sure what happened lol no comments please that changed as I got older and now you cant shut me up, there is I have found an element of confidence needed for this job , I sometimes feel guilty because there are photographers on here who have been at it longer and are far better technically and more imaginative than I, and I am really learning on the job quite literally. Having said that all the jobs I have got so far started with an email so its not nessecary to go ringing around, telling freinds and relatives is also good advertising. I threw myself into this, I said I could do things before I had tried, I dropped myself in the deep muddy end without a second thought because thats the way I get the best from me. Who was it said? never tell anyone you are new? well they were so right, the confidence has to be to some degree false when starting out, because you cannot charge for something then say sorry its the first time ive done this but hey still worth the £100! then again you do need to be pretty sure you can actually produce a fairly decent photo.Ive learnt also that the public buy photo's that mean something to them, they will see something that is blurred or not lit correctly and still want it! its up to us to steer them away as we want only our best images to go out and be seen. Anyway to those who are thinking but nervous, shut that bit out go for it, there is no better feeling than having someone ask you to take thier picture or buying your images and it makes the rest pale into insignificance. There hasnt been a better day than when my images were seen and liked by others, I still have some technicalities to learn, some insurance to buy! and more equipment to get lol thats it, hopefully some of what ive said is helpful and apolgies for the amount of I's in this post (only child syndrome! ) ![]() Last edited by Summerleft : 10-09-2007 at 15:52. |
