Night skies & Stars

First of all i am no expert in this field & have only picked up a few tips to get me started which i am going to share with you now.One thing that is
very important to keep in mind while shooting night images is that you are capturing light not darkness, so youll be looking at high ISO, i started
with iso 500 with my images to begin with.
Done a bit of studying at the start to see what was best at capturing stars, i first read about the 600 rule & tried that but my test shots were
showing slight movement in the stars when zoomed in on, i then came across a couple of sites that used the 500 rule, it sounded very interesting so i
give it a try, well it was well worth it as now my stars didn't have any movement/slight streak to them, so this is what i stick by now,as you see by
my images it was a starting point for me, i look forward now to try & better my images a bit more now thanx to the 500 rule

You will basically need 5 things:

fast wide-angle lens
steady tripod
remote release
Torch
Warm clothing

Before taking any photos:

disable Image Stabilization on your lens (or body)
switch to manual focusing
switch your camera to manual mode as you will definitely need to set exposure manually.
set aperture to the widest one

My recent images that i posted were taken at 24mm f/2.8 lens @ iso-500, so 500 rule is 24 x 1.5 = 36 seconds, 500/36 = 13.88 seconds so rounded
off my time is 14 seconds.

For example; let's say your taking a shot with a 24mm lens on a full frame camera. 500 / 24 = 21 seconds, which you can round to 20 seconds.
24mm lens on Nikon 1.5 crop. 24 x 1.5 = 36 seconds, 500/36 = 13.88 seconds round to 14 seconds.
24mm lens on CANON 1.6 crop. 24 x 1.6 = 38.4 seconds, 500/38.4= 13.02 seconds round to 13 seconds

All my images were 1 image only, no stacking involved, check the links for stacking to see how its done

Hope you enjoy this as i have, here is a link to a couple of sites that i got my info from & they use the 500 rule to.
