photographers direct library
Photographers direct,
http://www.photographersdirect.com This is another stock photography site which you can upload your images to, It is a fairly simple process and they allow you some free space, extra space can be purchased at £10.00 / year so not really expensive. First of all though you will have to do a bit of work resizing your pics. 500 pxs on the longest edge and at 72 dpi, originals must be at least 3000 pxs on the longest side at 300 dpi. All images are checked for quality control, usually within 48 hours and they send you daily picture requests by e-mail. The upload process is pretty much the same as uploading your images to the gallery on this forum and is fairly straight forward. If a client wants to purchase your picture Photographers direct sends them your contact details and you deal directly with the client, there is a handy calculation tool to help you get a ballpark figure for what you should be charging and the client pays you. Photographers direct then invoices you for 20% of the sale value. This could probably be well worth a look for those of you who don’t want to go down the Alamy route for whatever reason and it does let you upload small files from the comfort of your own living space.

Re: photographers direct library
The picture library thing is something that I have only recently started looking into after realising id got 100s of pics sat around doing nothing, I was chatting with some fellow togs at a meeting and they suggested I start sending them, they have several thousand images with alamy and generate between £15.000 and £25.000 a year. It is difficult for me to give you a percentage for myself as I havn't been doing it long enough myself but my thought is that my pictures may as well be somewhere that potential buyers can see them than sat on a hard drive

Re: photographers direct library
Actually it's the really boring mundane stuff, ya know an egg in an egg cup piles of pound coins, you can take some stunning pics of things and they will never sell, it really is a strange market, good quality photographs of just about anything will sell eventually. The nice thing about photographers direct is that you get e-mails daily requesting photographs.

Re: photographers direct library
Interesting
How do you decide how much to charge, couldn't see any guidelines, just your own rates?
