Re: Example shot taken with Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM

Better late than never

Marked up a quick shot of the course from the top, 1 to 7.
1 is a bad location, you get the tower in the background which is a bit ugly.
2 is directly opposite and gives you a half decent background
3 lets you catch them coming round the berm, lots of mud
4 is similar to two but the drop offs steeper so you get more under them

Re: Example shot taken with Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM

5 lets you catch them coming down the hill or just going up, occasional wheelies which they like
6 can be good, the tail often hands out throwing up mud, not on sunday though
7 is a bit of a cheat, I'm actually on the other side of the track to get the first corner shot, the "holeshot", much prized, and that's about it. Behind where I took the shot of the track there are another couple of jumps and berms but I've not included them here.

Side note, how do these look, new monitor and I'm lost

You should, it takes a while for them to get to know you, and you them, but they're a great bunch when you do start to get in with them. We do have a wee bit of fun as well, this guy is actually one of the contenders to be the Scottish champ this year

Sorry dod, I'm a little late to the party but i would like to thank you for this great write up.

I'll also add a coment on your processing as you have a new monitor and asked for feedback. Overall they are great but comparred to your previous stuff the reds seem much more prominant (almost illuminated) and your blues are a little lacking. While not scientific, thats the impression I get

Thanks for the observation, interesting. I found this in a review at photonotes, might be relevant

I also find the Canon EOS 1D Mark II to be very sensitive to very bright red. Be careful not to run the histogram too far to the right with a red subject.

Did you ever find that issue with your previous camera, I find it all the time with both the 10D and the 20D.

Not as far as I can tell. To the best of my knowledge I'm doing everything the same, if there's any foundation in the quote above it would seem to be something to do with the way the sensor reacts to, or the camera processes red objects

Re: Example shot taken with Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM

hello guys,

Have decided i am looking for a 70-200mm focal length for canon 10D. whats the autofocus speed like on the sigma in lowish light conditions, my main use for a lens like this would be for social events, concerts, live gigs etc, not so much sports,(but maybe wildlife with converter attached if that would give good results?) execellent photography by the way in this thread and quality has got me considering this lens

between this and canons 70-200 2.8 (non IS, and IS versions) which would you plump for, and is the IS version worth double price of the sigma

ps i hate using tripods...ps again ..were the motocross photos taken with a tripod or hand held?
