Canon Rebel XTi
Hello to All:
I am quite new to both digital SLR photography as well as posting and conversing. I had difficulty finding even this page where I can write a few lines. I read some of the comments on the new Tamron 18-250mm lens (best walkabout lens?) and it cought my attention as I would very much want to use a lens like it for my travels. Just recently we bought a Canon XTi with the lens kit. I took the camera to China and took about 400 pictures. They turned out not too bad, however, for some reason they were not as "colourful" as the ones I have taken previously with my Kodak D4800. (I am at the "point and shot" phase). After we came home I went to the local camera shop and ended up buying a new lens for the XTi, a Canon EF-S17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM. The info on this lens said: "compact and light weight", however, after I installed the lens it felt like I am holding a brick. I am used to it now and I quite like thew new lens. It is far superior to the kit lens. This lens will be my around the home lens taking pictures of the family and friend etc. As for my travels I would only want to take a single lens and by the sound of it the Tamron lens might just do the trick. While researching the subject I also came across a new Sigma offering in the 18-200mm focal range with its own image stabilizer function. Any thoughts on that one? I took a few pictures with the new lens and I would very much like to submit them for the group's opinion. I would like to get some pointers toward becoming a better photographer. Can someone tell me how would I post them? Thanks. Regards, Steven |

Re: Canon Rebel XTi
Hi Steven and
. You have a fine lens with the 17-85. With regard to a walkabout lens I use the Tamron 18-200 which I am happy with. I can't comment, yet, on the 18-250 but I imagine, from the spec, that it will be very similar too the 18-200. So...don't expect the bees knees in low light, it probably won't achieve it's full zoom and watch out for some CA at extremes. However, it's good value for money. Check out our Equipment Reviews for specs and reviews of a number of suitable lenses. With regard to uploading photographs you have two options. Firstly you can store images in your own personal Members Gallery. You can link to those images in posts. Or you can store on your own webspace and link to the images. There are many threads to help you - have a look in the Rules and Announcements Forum and also in the Photo Sharing and Critique Forums. If you are still stuck post back
