Cheers!
Just found this site tonight, thought I'd sign up and sign in.
I've always enjoyed taking pics but recently my wife set up a Kenya Safari so I thought I should up grade from the old Power Shot...So I did...A Canon 40D with a 75 - 135 Lens and a 100-400 Lens...I'd say I up graded . What the hell...Africa, trip of a life time...so they say. Now I just have to figure out how to get my clothes there. So now I just need to learn how to use all of this before Aug. Since I never got past auto on my Power Shot, I would say I need to concentrate a bit more this time around. Long story short, I'll try to be active and you in return can tear me to pieces in the nicest possible, well intentioned way...well my work anyway...try to leave me intact for the lions, I'm sure they're looking forward to my visit . See ya in the Forums ![]() Cheers, mitch |

Re: Cheers!
We wereplanning a trip like that last year until my wife had a problem with her neck and we could not go.
My advice if it is dusty out there do not change the lens much I would stick to the 100-400 most of the time. Learn to use that one first. Keep it simple to start with. Take lots of pictures and with different apertures and shutter speeds etc. When you get to the PC use the exif info to see what you did. Ask questions here and have a good holiday |

Re: Cheers!
Hey thanks for the welcome Graham, AQ And Woody.
I do plan to get a bit of practice in Graham. And It looks like this site may help in getting me through at least a bit of that curve. I'd really hate to get there and take bad pics...especially if I can't blame it on my equipment ![]() Bummer about your trip AQ, that is the thing that you are always afraid will happen. Sorry it happened to you. Hope it comes back around for you again, but more importantly that your wife is alright. I think you're right about the lens. And I think that 100-400 will do most of what I will need. Guess it depends on how close we get to things. If I can get my aperture and shutter speeds down to where I'm comfortable...that and the auto settings should get me there. I'll also need to get a handle on moving things and capturing them with that 400 setting. Thanks for the tip about the dust...didn't think that far ahead yet. First question...how do ya upload pics to a new thread from my computer. The uploader only seems to let you bring them from a URL... Am I doing it wrong?

Re: Cheers!
You have gallery space right from the off Tazz.
When you upload you can choose where the pictures will go, and a copy will be placed into your own gallery, and it will show in the 'recent photos' on the main gallery page. If you want, you can set up an album first, then upload into that. |
