Post D80 or D40 for a digital beginner

hello everyone,

I lateley started to take photography more seriously. I have a regular Nikon SLR and want to buy a DSLR, Nikon of course. what would you recommend I am consedering the D40 and D80. Please help me out, I need to start in digital fast

They're both good digital slrs to start out on, the D40 won't auto focus without AF-S lenses which are more expensive, (depends how bothered you are about auto focus) and the D80 is a better camera overall, but it costs more than the D40!

I'd personally go for a D80, buy body only if you have good lenses from your Nikon film slr, if not get a decent fast lens with it and you'll be good to go. I'm not sure what the kit lens is they offer with the D80, but they're generally not great cos they're cheap slow zooms.

Re: D80 or D40 for a digital beginner

If you intend to develop (no pun intended!) your photography, I'd go for the D80. It is a more capable camera.

All cameras take decent pictures these days but the higher the spec the more you can do with them, I dont own either camera but I think the D80 is the better of the two!
