Talking Hello!

Hi,

I'm new to this forum. It looks like a great site. Glad I found it.

I recently upgraded my camera to a Canon PowerShot SD790 IS (Digital Elph).

Though some of the steps are a bit confusing, my recent photos are very clear and sharp. I'm really happy with the camera, and hope to learn more about it.

Where in this forum would I ask a question about framing a photo (printed onto paper)? In particular, I am wondering upon what material should I "glue" down the print, and, also, what "glue" is a good product to use? This is actually a non-camera question, but a more general question.

I have prints of black and white photos that were printed on paper (not photo paper), and during the humid weather, the paper over cardboard (not glued on but taped upon a mat frame) looks bad. Lots of ripples on prints. I want to lay them down properly, but don't know the correct to do this.

I'll re-post this part in the correct area on this forum once someone can tell me where I should post it.

I have several questions about my camera I'll post soon.

Thank you!
Betty

Re: Hello!

Welcome to Pixalo Betty

I think there are some members who do what you are trying to achieve.

If you post a question in the General Photography Q's and A's forum and ask about mounting I'm sure you will get some help. One way to do this is to only apply the adhesive to a thin strip at the top of the print and to allow it to hang in between a backing and a border - usually called a matte. This allows the print to expand and contract without creasing. You have to use proper adhesives and mounting boards to stop any chemicals in (for instance) cardboard or the adhesive from spoiling the photograph by staining or worse over time.

While you are waiting, you might find some information by Googling 'photo mounting'.

Re: Hello!

Hi, Graham -

Thanks for writing back. I have seen many prints adhered at the top of the mat, but I wasn't sure whether the buyer was supposed to adhere it further. Just sticking the print at the top of the mat may well be my problem. I'll try it. I'm still curious about what the outer back should be. I've often used cardboard ... but living in a humid area (summer in New England), cardboard warps. I'll write again soon on the other category. Just wanted to see if you had any ideas about the best backing available? Thanks! Betty
